Picking up my S&W Model 58 in .41 Mag. tonight

You guys are all making me jealous! I've wanted a 58 ever since I read L.Neil Smith's The Probability Broach back in the early '80s. I love the .41 (have a 4 5/8" Blackhawk), but not a 58.

And here I was, sitting here feeling all fulfilled! Now I feel deprived! Have a bunch of fun, Mike!
cheers,
erich

Congrat's Mike, on your purchase. The .41 Magnum is a personal favorite of mine, as well. :D

Congratulations.
I envy you. I've been looking for one for years. The only ones I have found in reasonable shape have been so over-priced that I couldn't bear the price.
Again, good for you

There are two in the current Gun List. One is described as mint at $550 at Rick's [(915)392-3288; the other is supposedly excelent and priced at $425 at Howell's [(207)657-2324]. I don't know either place, jus passing along the info for anyone interested.
Congradulations Mike, they are a great gun.

I see you live in Northern Virginia. Was that the 58 at Potomac Arms? I saw it a couple of weeks ago and it was superb. I thought about picking it up myself. Congratulations.

I envy you. Had one years ago and sold it. I shot a PPC match with it (hard rubber grips) and that has been the only gun that raised a blister on my palm.

Also years ago I taught a basic firearms course in the pan handle of Alaska. One of my students was a little nun - originally from Iowa - who loved to fish. Her brother had given her one for bear protection when she went fishing. At about 15 yards she could consistantly make little tomato paste cans go away. And pretty smartly at that.

Great gun. Enjoy.

Cypselus,

Nope, I bought it from a guy I used to work for. He only does gun shows now. Treasure Island Armory. But yes, I am in Northern Virginia.

I hate to make you guys puke :) but this gun is about as close to mint as you can get, and I'm only paying $275 for it.

Some months ago I bought a 99.5% (yes, that close to mint, didn't even have a drag line around the cylinder) Model 28 for $250!!!!!! That was from another guy at a gunshow on a private sale. He had thrown the box out two weeks before the show.

Worst of all? I COULDN'T PICK IT UP TONIGHT! The storms were too bad around here this evening. :( Tomorrow...

Congratulations! I am a big fan of the .41 Mag., and have a Mdl. 57, 6", which I very often carry out in the boonies where there are bears and such critters (some two legged ones, too). Several years ago, I killed a 400 pound black bear with the Mdl. 57, and my handloads. It hits really hard and shoots flat.

Now, you've gotta find yourself a Marlin 1894 in .41 Mag., to make a great combo. I love my Marlin .41 mag. At the last Boise Gun Show, I saw that Marlin is again making them in their Cowboy lever. Octagon barrel. Guy had a new one on his table. Beautiful! Have fun. J.B.

$275!!!!! $275?!?!?!?! Excuse while I go puke from jealousy. It would be reasonable at twice the price. You're a lucky man, but I don't suppose I need to tell you that.

Cypselus,

I keep trying to find a 25-2 in .45 Colt, or a 24 in .44 Spl., for around the same price, but they seem to be a little more expensive. :)

Beware the man with the S&W .357 Mag.
Chances are he knows how to use it.

I love the Smith N-frames, but I've never cosied up to the .41. I've had or have .357's, .44Mag, .44Spl, and .45ACP, tho', and they were invariably accurate.

Congrats! I always thought they should have expanded the line and introduced the 4" bull barrel N Frame M&P in 44 Special, 45 Colt, 357 Mag, and 44 Mag. I guarentee I would have owned several instead of just the one M58 which when the way of many good things (traded) years ago.

I hate to burst your bouble but the quote is"

BEWARE OF THE MAN WHO HAS ONLY ONE GUN BECAUSE, HE PROBABLLY KNOWS HOW TO USE IT.

Hey Madison, it's an armored bubble,

I know the quote. I "re-engineered" it to fit MY needs, since I am a big proponent of Smith & Wesson's Model 19 & Model 28, both in .357 Mag.

Mike was kind enough to let me light off a few rounds in his new baby. It's sweet! It was my first experience with the .41, and what cam I say, but "wooooooooo, baby", she's a handfull. It's not that's it's hard to shoot, it's very nicely balanced and fits my big hands well, but it sure gets everyone's atention at an indoor range :) :) :). Great fun, but I couldn't feature a practice session going more thatn 20-25 rounds, though. Thanks, again, Mr Irwin.
