Picked up something interesting at the local gun show today

I always wanted one of these but the one I wanted was always way out of my price range. This a Russian designed Tokarev TT33 pistol made in Hungary in 9mm Luger. What makes these guns interesting is that the designer borrowed a lot of features you can find in Browning pistols and improved on it some ways. Like the whole trigger group can be removed in one piece for example. The finish and build quality is on par with any Western wartime military issue handguns, the trigger is crisp in fact it's very nice. These are very rare in the States and I am very excited to have been able to pick one up in unissued condition for about half the going rate, I still found cosmoline inside when I stripped it down. They normally sell for in the $1k range. My budget was $600, I had to make a choice between a stainless S&W 1911 or this Hungarian 9mm Tokarev.

Here is Hickok45 shooting one:

That is a fine pistol. They are very rugged, reliable and cheap to shoot as ammo is readily available for it. I had a chance to buy one from a friend and blew it because I wanted to keep my calibers of ammo to a minimum...kick myself in the butt all the time for that decision, great purchase, hope we get a range report soon.

Nice! I have the Chinese version in 9mm. I got it used and it looks like it has many thousands of rounds through it. It still shoots great.

Not just a Tokarev.
What is really interesting is that you have a commercial sales version of the Hungarian Tokagypt as originally produced for Egypt.
Original factory designation TT9P, later Tokagypt 58.
The P38 type wraparound grips and the safety catch are specific to the model.

Yours looks like a Version 7 with the added "7,62mm TT" so there should have been a spare barrel floating around somewhere.
Is yours marked Super 12 on the other side?

Yes, it does have Super 12 marked on the other side of the slide. It did not come with the box unfortunately but I am sure I can find the Tokarev caliber barrel and magazine for it. The other interesting part about this gun that it does not have any import marking on it that I can find.

I knew at the time of purchase that these things are kind of a unicorn. He also had a Chinese and Romanian ones for sale next to it. At first I thought it was a fake because he was selling it so cheap

The rain finally stopped and the light conditions are good, I could take some more photos:

I always say that this is the last handgun I am going to buy, I am happy with what I have and don't need anymore. Then I find something I must absolutely have or it's such a good deal I can't pass it on :-)
