Picked up my first SxS

Well, first time at a gun show went great, so there will be many more in my future.

Picked up a hardly fired 1960's Stevens 311A for a cool $240 after some haggling with the tag price being $325. Guess it helps that it was the last hour of the show because day 2 was cancelled due to Irene coming up the coast. Also, the guy was a descent fellow and it was one of his personal firearms that he bought brand new in the 60's and we ended up talking for 30 minutes after the purchase about politics, the economy, etc. Hopefully he will be at the next show as well.

The only imperfections are 2 dings on the right barrel, 1 in the stock, and a minor scratch towards the butt.

It doesn't have a serial number being so old, so I was wondering if there was any other ways to tell exact age. The guy couldn't remember the exact year he purchased it as he had a large firearms collection, and it would be nice to know.

Congrats, you've a fine shotgun there. I've had two 311s, both of which I wish I still owned.

Now go shoot it plenty...

Nice looking gun slugo, I like the Retriever engraved into the left side.

Already took 3 crows with it in 3 shots (more pest control then hunting). Got one with the left barrel, the other 2 started flying got #2 with the right barrel, reloaded and got #3 with the left. Shoots well, as crow $3 was nearly 50 yards out before I shot.

Hopefully going to take it out and shoot some trap this afternoon to get ready for Partridge season.

Those Stevens doubles are nice.....

Beautiful simplicity - nice made-to-be-shot guns. My Grandad had one in 16 ga. that was his all-around farm gun when I was a kid. I always assumed I would get it. Shortly before he died, I was visiting and asked him where it was (noticeably absent from his gun rack) and he mentioned "oh, I did not need it anymore so I sold it to a guy at the stock yard".....for about $100. Grrrr........
