Picked up a Ruger GP100 w/ a slight twist today

Had this set aside at my local range/shop. Was made an offer on my Security Six that I couldn't pass up. So home it came with me. It is one of the most comfortable revolvers I have ever held. This particular gun also has a trigger/action job done to it by a local gunsmith that I'm quite familiar with. Tomorrow it heads to the range for some fun.

You got a sharp revolver. I was (even more than) lucky to find a set of Wiley Clapp grips for my GP-100, the only GP that I own, and it's not like y'all's, because mine is the 4.2" barrel, 7-shot GP-100 in .327 Federal Magnum, and I am in love with the grips.

The only part of your story that makes me wince is that you had to surrender an old war horse to pull it off. Man, dig the couch cushions, eat mac & cheese for a month and skip all the beverages & take out food and you've got real gun money without having to sacrifice a good soldier.

But spiffy new one you brought home!
 
Had one for a week now..

Yup, I could not pass it up.

That fiber optic really works and the grip lets me shoot multiple cylinders full of 158-grain magnums. I feel the recoil in my palm with each shot but it doesn't build up to pain. And when I am touching off those rounds and getting a little fireball from the cylinder gap, the needle on my fun meter swings all the way over to 'max'.

I bought mine from the original owner and he insisted he didn't do anything to the sights. So I guess it came from Ruger with both the front and rear sights noticeably offset to the left :( I'm going to have to center them and at this point I don't know if I can move them with a brass punch.

The rear sight has a set-screw but is tight in the dovetail. So I guess there is some careful tapping in its future.

The trigger pull in mine is the best DA Ruger that I have felt. It seems to stack a little in DA, like a Colt but not as much. It is just smooth and very nice and I don't see why yours was ever handed to a gunsmith.

The OP didn't mention that the TALO GP100 has a tapered cylinder. The noisy end has less diameter than the rear end.

And I call that sexy!

Wow, I really had no idea. Clicked the picture to see and it's very subtle, but probably a bit more noticeable in person.

I can't say I've seen that done before, but I've not seen -HALF- the revolvers as some of the fine minds we have active in this area of the sight.

I'm with you, though, it's a pretty good look! :cool:

Put a 100 rds of 38's through it yesterday. It is a very sweet shooting revolver. I've never shot a revolver this accurately before. It's a perfect fit in my hand. The action & trigger are as smooth as silk. I'll put some 357's down range with it next week. So far I'm more than pleased with this purchase. The only drawback is now I'm hot for revolvers again, which of course means another revolver to keep this one company. So many guns, so little money.
 
Congratss, nice gun but the tapered cylinder, it does make the gun look better (not that it was a slouch) but I wonder why. Other than looks, can’t have removed much weight.

Thank you and I remember reading somewhere about the tapered cylinder and beveled edges on every corner being for easier holstering and to slow down holster wear. I personally think its more cosmetic than anything
 
Tapered.

Well, you might call it a bevel, but is a long, gentle bevel that causes the cylinder to "taper" in at the front.

Really, it does. It is quite obvious when looking at the cylinder "tapering" down from the topstrap.

Ryu, it looks like your blued gun doesn't have the fiber optic front sight. Am I observing correctly? If so, too bad as I find it to be an excellent sight.

No the blue version has a gold bead instead. I would've liked to have the fiber optic sight but I got over it pretty quick
