Photos of Scope Mounts for Sako

Does anyone know of any place on the web where I can see various scope mounts for Sako rifles? I don't want to buy something without usin' a little scrutiny on it first.

There are a few different makers of rings for Sako rifles. I have the Leupold version on my varmint in 6PPC and some great looking Warne split rigns on my Manlicher carbine.

Other than the Warne, it would seem that they would all look much the same.

Thanks Intel...

I think maybe I should have phrased my question a little more precisely. I'm primarily concerned with the bases themselves. I do not want a windage-adjustable rear mount. The rings are a concern, but only after the most solid bases have been picked out. I like the strength of Weaver-style mounts, but I want strength AND style, and Weaver's mounts and rings have never struck me as "elegant". I do like the Leupold Dual Dovetail system, but it's not available for my application, as far as I know.

I'll take a look at Warne, and see what they have to offer. Thanks!

Because of the groved reciever of the Sako, there are two ways to go. You can either attach a base and then rings or use rings that clamp directly to the dovetail. Those were the types I was talking about. Both the Leupold and the Warne versions I have don't have bases.

They aren't close ups of the rings but these pics might help

Here is my .308 Manlicher with the Warne rings, it has a 1.5x6 Schmidt & Binder in them. I really like these for the looks, they are really different.

I have always been very partial to Warne rings, especially the non-QR or lever release type. They clamp on like the hinges of hell and never move, plus they are more streamlined than the wide Weaver type of mount and look different, sort of semi-custom. The .22RF mounts for grooved receivers are especially solid.

Sako makes a nice ringmount, too. Nothing like the same manufacturer for matching. However, if your Sako is older, they may be a gunshow only item and costly.

For ultimate sleek looks, consider Conetrol with the Sako Adaptar base. I saw a nice Mannlicher stocked rifle like the one pictured by Intel6 with them. (Nice looking rifle Intel6. The Sakos with the full length stocks handle so nice.) They advertise in American Rifleman and have a detailed brochure.

Thanks guys, I do appreciate your responses.

I have posted a similar question at another board devoted to Sako rifles, and someone there mentioned problems that can arise from using the Leupold rings...something about slight misalignment.

Intel, have you experienced this, and is there a solution to the problem? Are the Warne mounts more foolproof??

Hank, I sure like those Conetrols. So clean looking!

I actually had a pair of the conetrol mounts on the manlicher before I got the 30mm S&B scope and had to go with something else. They are great also, noce and clean.

I didn't have any problems with the Leupold mounts, they went on fine. After installation, I lapped them and installed the scope without any problems?

The Warnes seemed to go on fine also. I did have some minor slipping problems with them. I think the recoil from the carbine made them slowly slide back. I put a small amoutn of locktitie on the dovetail and it solved the problem but isn't permanant.

Intel6, Conetrol offers metric rings in 30MM according to their web site just in case you want to go back to those.
Looking around, I see that I have a pair of the Warne QD's on a Ruger #1 in 45/70. The Ruger has similar dovetails to those found on the Sako. This rig has a fair amount of recoil and I have had no problems with the rings at all.

Thanks for the info Hank, I am pretty happy with the Warne set up so I will stick with it. I was stationed in Germany at the time and had to use what Brownell's had to offer. I am not sure if Conetrol offered 30mm rings at the time? I was planning on getting a different set of bases and using the rings for something else.

Nice looking #1 setup. I would like a pair of those for my #1B in .22 Hornet, sure would make it look nice. I want to scope my other #1 and would like them on it also but I am wondering about recoil. It is a #1H that was a .458 Win Mag but I had it rechambered to .460 Weatherby. I am not only worried about the mounts, I am concerned about the scope also. Pushing a .45 Cal 500 gr. bullet at 2,600 fps. can do some strange things to equipment.
