Some european friends are visiting the Phoenix area and I'm driving up from Tucson to introduce them to shooting.
What ranges would you recommend, preferably a place the has active targets, (falling steel plates, spinning stuff, you know what I mean) instead of just paper. Also, any good safe places in the desert to set up cans and plastic bottles.
they'll be in fountain Hills.
Thanks.

I shoot at Mandall's Shooting Supplies in Scottsdale. Nice indoor range. No animated stuff, but you can rent full auto weapons there. That might be fun. Scottsdale is near to Fountain Hills.

If you can get em all the way up to the Prescott area, check out Sundog Shooters. Very picuresque and clean range. Lots of different presentations. They have reactive targets. More info on home page below.

For a regular range, I used to shoot at Caswell's. Mostly I just went out on BLM land with a few friends with targets, etc. Two good places in general were down off route 60 before getting to Florence Junction and northwest of town near Lake Pleasant. Former has a wonderful backdrop, and the latter is a wash where you can easily shoot rifles, etc. I've moved on to greener pastures in Idaho, but I can put you in touch with a friend of mine still trapped in Phoenix if you want details on the 'free' spots :).

TABING, I can't believe that NOBODY has suggested Ben Avrey Range to you yet! The largest publicly owned shooting range in the Country. Campsites, facilities, covered shooting ranges, even a 1000' range (take Long Shot Drive ;)). A few tips, whether you shoot at Rio Salado, Ben Avery or anywhere outdoors in the Valley: bring water and a wide brimmed hat! I was told it was 91*F in Gila Bend yesterday by 8:00AM!
anodes.
