Phoenix HP22 kit. Any good?

I have recently seen a few ads for a little kit by Phoenix. I think it is called the "range master" or something similar. It is an HP22 pistol, 2 barrels; one short, one 6" target, hard case, cleaning tools, etc. in a lockable case for about $150. Has anyone here shot one of these? Are they decent shooters? Is it worth $150 or should I spend $250 for a Ruger Mark II?

Thanks!

CHAD,
I bought a HP-22 for a plinker a few years ago. They didn't offer a kit then. I shot about 500 rounds out of it when the trigger bar broke. Instead of sending the gun back, I had Phoenix Arms just send the part to me. They didn't charge me anything, and it came thru the mail in about 5 days. Since then I have fired over 2000 rounds thru it with NO problems. I then bought the extended barrel and magazine, and a set of laminated wood grips. It shoots very well and is very accurate for the price! I think for the money it is a decent gun. But I also like the Rugers and the Smith & Wesson 22a. I hope this helped!

Hard question to answer. The first firearm I ever owned was the HP-22. I still have it and shoot it. 150 bucks is about right. It puts 10 rds down range real quick. The advantage is the different barrels. I carried this pistol for about a year, and bought the range barrel later. I used this pistol to finish off tough groundhogs, and Stingers have never failed. I really like this value priced package. I did have some service performed a couple of times, and was very satisfied. Nice people there. I also own a S&W 22a, and like it a lot, but it's size doesn't make for a small carry option.

When I was looking for a small 22 I looked at one of these at my local dealers. He always racks the slide when passing a gun to a customer to show that they are unloaded. When he did this to the Phoenix it broke. It was a new gun. He told me that one of his employees had caused this (by somehow improperly handling the gun) when they previously had shown the gun. I can't remember exactly what he said was wrong with this gun, but it appeared to me that the slide was not functioning properly. It my have been a broken recoil spring. Sorry I couldn't be more specific.

I just saw that kit advertised in one of the gun mags today. I was thinking of picking one up for plinking and graduating my daughter up to a pistol.
Where have you seen them for sale?
Thanks,
Steve

I guess it depends on what type of gun you want? I have the HP-22 With all the extra's, A Ruger mark II bull barrel in stainless with red dot scope and S@W-22S In stainless With a red dot scope. I use the ruger and the S@W-22S for match shooting and the HP-22 for plunking and some carring. I have over 2000 rounds through the HP-22 and it still works great and looks like new. I did have to send it to the factory recently for a broken fireing pin retaining plate, mailed it on friday got it back the next wed. Excellent service, they even set me a new extended clip with it. They are fun to shoot. At a price of $94.00 for the basic gun.you can't go wrong haveing one in your collection.

Hope this helps.

Had a HP-22 for a while....not bad for the money. Trigger was sometimes alittle sluggish to reset and did not like the fact that the slide does not lock back after the last round. Quadcab

I bought a HP22 when they first came out and was rather impressed overall. After firing about 400 rounds through it I got a little devious with my dremel tool and made a few alterations. First of all I removed the magazine disconnect safety, then I polished the trigger bar. The trigger pull lightened way up, accuracy improved and I discovered that the safety could now be used to hold an open slide back. Shortly there after I bough the extended barrel and mags with the finger extension. Again nothing but improvement. For less than $100 this is good deal.

Less than a $100 for HP22 !! Man, I sure envy you guys. Me and my half were at a gun store the other day and looking at the same model for .....$300.

$300?!? Holy cow, what kind of crack are they smoking?

One local shop typically runs the base HP-22 for $109 which is sorta high actually. There's a guy at the gun shows that runs them for right around $79 brand new. I keep meaning to pick one of them up for a camping pistol but just haven't got around to it yet.

Sometimes I wonder, should I continue monitoring TFL, it breaks my heart hearing you guys talk about prices. Even the Vector Toy Gun is expensive here in my place.

I got my HP-22 for $100 plus another $15 for the target barrel set. I've had to send it back to the factory for repair once, got it back in less than two weeks. Since then, I put a couple of thousand rounds through it without any problems.

vega- How much do full capacity mags go for
where you're at? I had to pay $100 for
Glock 13rd .45 magazine.

Razor,

Don't have an idea right now as I'm not a Glock fan ( no offense to Glock enthusiasts). But a G17 would run for $750.

You should have bought another P22 for that 100 bucks. ;)

$79 was from a dealer at a local show just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. Not sure of the guys shop name ofhand though as i only see him at the shows. If I can make it to the next show I'll try and get more information.
