Phoenix Arms HP22

My wife wanted a .22 pistol for plinking and we got a Phoenix Arms HP22. It was $160 and seems to be a nice little semi-auto pistol. The range was closed tonight so I drove outside city limits and shot a couple of magazines off. No jams so far. :)

I find it highly ironic that the PRK's "Junk Gun Law" was supposed to eliminate inexpensive pistols made by Phoenix Arms and others. I guess they weren't as inherently unsafe as your omniscient legislators thought...

The HP 22 is considered the 22 you should buy by people who have shot or owned them. They can be picky about ammo alittle, which is quite typical of any 22 s/auto. You may have a couple of hickups while breaking it in...first 200-500 rnds. After that mine was an excellent little gun. Enjoy it..and shoot well

Please don't get me started. :D

This is only my second gun and my wife was laughing at me when I was reading the manual and trying to figure out how to strip and reassemble it. Now I know why people go "Man that's really simple!" when I remove the slide on my Glock. :)

Also, the safety features on the Phoenix Arms are a pain in the butt and far too complicated.

I thought all guns would be as simple as my Glock! ;)

They are surprisingly nice pistols. Mine has been VERY reliable ever since I bought it, with every type of ammo except Winchester X-Pert or X-Treme or whatever they're called.

I'm annoyed by the multiple redundant safety mechanisms. Firing pin block? Okay. Can't remove/insert magazine unless gun is on safe? Can't cock the hammer with safety on? Ugh. My guess is the company tried to make a gun legal for PRK..from what I hear, it didn't quite work.

Gentlemen (Meowhead, 22x9, DLL & Eric):

I started a thread (Trigger Pull on Mouse Guns) on 4/9/02 to find out how heavy the trigger pull is on some of the small .22 LR autos (including the HP-22).

Can you tell me (estimate) the trigger pull on your HP-22's ?? If you can't estimate the weight in pounds, maybe compare it to a Glock or something.

Thanks,

'Real light' is the best I can offer. :P

Sorry. I'm living in a socialist state, and most of my guns are in storage several hours away.

Did you get the Range Master kit(3" & 5" barrels) or the range kits with only the 5" barrel?

I got the kit with only the 5". The 3" barrel is about $20. I think I'll order one.

I think I read somewhere on TFL about someone disabling some of the safety features. I'd like it if I could remove the magazine at any time.

It's very easy. Take off the left grip panel and the main safety is exposed. A little bit of filing, maybe thirty seconds with a dremel should do it. IIRC, anyway.

dawg

the trigger pull on both of my HP-22s are heavier than my Steyr M9, which has a 5.5lb trigger pull. I'm guessing the that the trigger pull on the HP-22 is around a mushy 8lbs. If I could lighten it up I would.
