Philadelphia "illegal guns" hotline

something about this story just seems rediculous to me. now i have nothing against making sure convicted felons do not own a firearm, but pitting neighbor against neighbor over it is insanity. it also concerns me that there have been over 900 "tips" that have led to only 250 confiscations. this means that almost 700 law abiding gun carrying citizens have been harassed over legal ownership of a gun just because their neighbor freaked out when they saw them carrying it into their house from the range.

i won't even begin to describe the things that are wrong with this statement:
"Under the city-funded program, cheap handguns normally rate only a $250 reward, while the $1,000 payoffs are reserved for more dangerous weapons, like shotguns or attack rifles"

this country is going insane and something has got be be done before it is too late.

Pennsylvania is a battleground State because of Filthadelphia.

Due to the political climate of the City, you can expect to hear lots of anti-gun rhetoric in the coming years. The funny thing about PA is the fact that pushing anti-gun legislation is almost certain Political Suicide in the rest of the State. We have some of the most Conservative Democrats = Pro 2nd in the Country. Non in Filthadelphia.

After reading that I would love to call in from a payphone and give a tip that my neighbor has a cache of illegal "attack rifles" and then give them Chaka Fattah's address.

Not that I'd actually do anything like that...

Um... not necessarily.

Annonymous tips, even on these kinds of hot-lines, are not reliable enough to make a direct arrest in some cases. If you call up and tell police your neighbor carries a 9mm in his car, it may not be sufficient for the PD to stop and search his vehicle. It's certainly sufficient for the cops to talk to him and let his mouth run off enough that they can find a reason to search his car however.

And I don't doubt that a good lawyer will be able to subpenoa telephone records and caller-id records in order to find out who falsely accused someone. Welcome to the digital age.

However, the potential for abuse is there, along with some other problems. If this happens in a poor area and the caller suddenly buys a new wardrobe, furniture or other expensive item(s), they may be subjected to retribution.

But what I want to know is what the heck an attack rifle is?

The next step in confiscation.

I was told this is exactley how they confiscated all the guns in the Phillipines in the 1970's. First day turn in your guns with no questions asked. Second day turn your guns in and recive a small fine. Third day any person who turns in a person gets a large reward and the person with the guns gets a lenghly jail term. In three days all the guns are confiscated.
It's just a matter of time before it is a national program here in the US. IMO.

I live just outside Philly. Except for that one city the state is incredibly gun friendly, that ain't gonna change- but in Philly itself punks with guns is a major problem happily shooting each other. Sure Darwinism should take care of them in a few years but they're not terribly good shoots (big surprise) and we regularly hear about kids getting caught in the cross fire.
They are getting desperate to find a way to cut the murder rate and this encourages people in the 'hood to get involved and get the punks down. Yeah you'd think they'd want to do it just for their self preservation but anything to help.

Reality compromised... Twisted Logic mode: ON>

Maybe the gang types need a new game. Let's make some two way ranges for them. They can kill each other in a controlled environment. Duels were common at one time. We just need to modernize the concept. Let these "tuff guys" take care of this "gun problem" for us. Sword play and a Gentleman's honor. Gun play and the gangsta's honor, or whatever they like to think that they are defending. Either way they can kill each other off and pay taxes too.

Plus if you really have a problem with the punks you can "pop a cap" in thay gluteus maxi mus and do it legal like. I can see it now...

Gang members show up with their colors, looking like Saturday night bowling teams
They load up and stand off. Westsiiiiiiiide!!! BANG!! bang bang..... Last gang standing... ...Twisted logic mode: OFF<

Nahhh... would never work. Expecting them to act like men and supposed Gentlemen at that... One can dream though.

One day politicians will learn ,to not blame inanimate objects for their supposed contribution to a problem, that they as politicians helped to create by not learning from the past.

EFiN styoopyd ppl. are going to kill freedom off once and for all, one day.

Have some fun before they outlaw that one day.
