Phil Shoemaker Discusses Killing Brown Bear With 9mm

Main thing here is to avoid getting the 9mm fans all ecstatic and sweaty.

The bear incident was a rare exception.

The bear was helpful enough to offer to stand still sideways at 20 feet and take four of the heavy Buffalo Bore bullets right behind the shoulder.........and then run off and die.

How many bears are that polite?

But......the talk with that old Alaskan guide has moments that are jewels.

He's a smart and experienced guy.

Just remember that he does not recommend the 9mm for bear.

:)

Doesn't huntsmanship call for quick clean kill? It doesn't sound proper to me.

Oh it was an emergency. I stand corrected. I thought they were out hunting with handgun, and the bear took 4 rounds and ran off to die.

If a human is in danger, then anything goes. No problem there.

Yeah, they were fishing clients and got jumped when very close to the river.

And, remember that most game animals, most of the time, when hit through both lungs will run about 40 yards and die.

I think he said this bear ran 50 yards.

That's considered a clean and humane kill.

It can happen quicker but that will usually be with a brain or high spine shot.
