Pheonix Arms HP22 and shotshells

Has anybody tried to reduce the strength of the recoil spring so that the HP22 will cycle CCI Shotshells?

I purchased an HP22 and patterned the CCI shotshells through it. The pistol produced a reasonable pattern at about 7 feet with the longer barrel installed. It did not cycle the action.
I suspect if I was to reduce the strength of the recoil spring it would be able to cycle with the shotshells. As a side thought, weakening the recoil spring will make it a shotshell/CB Long pistol only.

Any thoughts on the subject out there?

Didn't think that the shotshells would be strong enough to cycle a semi. I would be interested in your results with weakening the recoil spring. I got 2 spare springs and wouldn't mind weakening one of them for the fun of it.

Good Luck with the experiment.

BTW. how many rounds have you put through your HP-22? I got just over 3500 when the frame broke and the barrel popped out. Sent it back and got a replacement.

22x9

I just purchased it about 2 weeks ago. I figure it will be my cheap fun gun.
I have only put about 50rds through it so far.
I did note that it is supposed to be fed 22LR Standard Velocity according to the manual.
I used the Wall-Mart 550rd box special. I think those are High Velocity.
The plan I have is to use CCI Shotshells and CB Longs in it if I can get it to cycle.
Primarily for any snake/rat/mouse I may to happen upon in the tool shed/feed room/barn.

Will pass along the results soon as I get the extra Recoil Spring and work it over.
