PF-9 Firing Pin Channel Clean-up

So far I haven't had a good experience with my PF-9. With 4 trips to the range and 200 rounds, I've had at least 9 FTF's, different ammo each time. I came across this link and ordered a new firing pin. The dis-assembly covered removing a stuck firing pin, de-burring and cleaning up the FP channel. From what I cleaned out, I'm hoping this takes care of my issues. Will find out next weekend.

It's just frustrating that with as many folks posting the problem they aren't taking care of this at the factory. :confused:

Even though your pics were blurry, i must agree with bill. After firing a lot of rounds, firing residue will begin to find its way into the firing pin channel / hole. The firing pin, firing pin spring, & other parts will have to be removed for cleaning.

Cotton swabs, pipe cleaners, tooth brush, & solvent is all you need to do the job. This is the owners responsibility to keep their firearm cleaned & lubricated.

I've owned two PF-9's and fired them quite a bit. Not one failure of any kind. I have never took one down to clean. Just Gun Blast or equivalent cleaner and re-lube with RemOil and grease on the rails. I have only fired Federal 115 gr. HP's through them both. This was told me by Gentleman at a Gun Show that had owned several and fired many rounds through them. He suggested I avoid heavier grain bullets ie 147 gr. and such. I find the PF-9's to be the cleanest shooting firearm I've owned. Seems very little residue even after a box or two at a session.
 
Well, I appreciate everyone's feedback. The pics are a bit blurry, but the second one clearly shows metal shavings in on the cloth. That pic was taken after simply removing the pin and wiping it off, no deburring had taken place at that point. Even after the clean-up and installation of the new pin, I still had 9 FTF's out of 100 rounds of new ammo of different brands. The range I shoot at is a conservation range, 3 seconds between shots, so I don't believe it to be a light trigger pull issue either. I'll give Keltec a call and see about getting this corrected. There seems to be a lot of happy Keltec owners out there. I got the gun for CC and I'm not feeling like I could trust my life with it at all.
 
The "metal shavings" are brass fragments. Pretty normal stuff for the inside of a firing pin channel. What's not normal is how gunky things look in there.

You're not putting any oil in the firing pin channel, are you?
 
Nope, cleaned it up & blew it out with air, wiped down the pin with some oil on a patch, and put it back together. I just wouldn't expect to find that much metal after only 200 rounds.
