Performance Report on Kel-Tec P-11

I previously reported that my P-11 wouldn't eject the Winchester white box fmj. Today the problem continued but not so severely. The gun jammed about every third shot. The Remington UMC fmj I had used before continued to be reliable. The gun just wouldn't accept Winchester jhp, but I believe KT says not to use it. FMJ does work in my P-32 (and in the Beretta Tomcat). I also fired my Taurus 617 T with both 357 and 38 special, my Ruger P-89, my Patriot .45, and my c. 1960 Beretta .25, all with good results.

Should I accept my P-11 as functional only with certain kinds of ammo, or try to make the pistol more accepting? I probably have fired less than 300 rounds from it.

Thanks,

I think the Winchester you used has a reputation for being a bit LONGER than spec. Lots of guns don't like certain ammos -- and some shoot better with one brand than another. Nothing really unusual, here.

If the gun functions well with other ammos, and Winchester WB is the only one you're having problems with, forget it. If you find other problems, send it back to Kel-Tec for adjustment or replacement.

I carried a P-11 off and on for almost two years. Once you get the hang of them, they're fine little guns. Mine was very accurate from a rest, but I could never get more than mediocre with it firing offhand. That is not the case with my other guns. While I don't fault the pistol, is sold it. (I had several SIGS I sold for the same reason.)

I just got a P-11. Overall I think its a nice little gun. I also had some problems with Winchester white box fmj. With my P-11 I would have an occassional failure to feed with the Winchester (I believe that most of these were from limpwristing 4 or 5, but it happened at least once when I held the gun firmly), but I didn't have any problems with ejection (150 rounds of Winchester White box). I polished the feed ramp and put 100 of Remington UMC through the gun without any problems. I haven't tried the Winchester since polishing the feed ramp, but I'll post the results.

Winchester white box 9 MM fmj

This ammo is noticeably longer than Remington UMC and has a different kind of rim.

Kel-Tec has a great reputation for service. Call 'em and I'll bet they'll ask you to send it back, where they will check it out and either fix what's wrong or send you a new one. Either way, I don't think you're stuck with the current unacceptable situation.

I remember mine had some probs in the beginning with all types of ammo but it settled down after a few hundred rounds or so. after doing the major fluff and buff and it rocks now( I polished EVERYTHING that touched another metal surface except the aluminum. 2000 rounds after the initial 300 with no jams.

My main jam then was FTExtract with occassional FTFeed. Seems to eat everything now. In fact, the extractor had busted off hundreds of rounds ago yet it still spit the casing out until about the last round or so. tell tale sign of that was the spent cases would wack me in the forehead! I replaced it and it broke again so I got another one and filed a bit off the front to shorten it a bit; now its been going for a last thousand rounds or so.

i shoot the cheapest i can find in my p11. It likes light, fast, heavy, slow, steel, brass...+p...+p+...anything 9.

nuff of the BS, just do a good fluff and buff yourself or have someone do it and it should work killer. Polish that feed ramp until it looks like chrome.
THE BEST ULTRA COMPACT HI CAP THERE IS BAR NONE...until glock or sig makes one...But they are too Chicken sh!t I think...too bad its the best format ever designed...
