Performance Center Revolver or not?

Shot a 627 8-shot revolver this afternoon. WOW! That is a nice revolver. I've shot 686's in the past, but this one is the first one I've actually wanted .
My quetsion is this...are the S&W Performance Center guns that much better that standard S&W revolvers?

As far as fit, finish, accuracy and mechanical smoothness yes. As far as styling and presentation, hell NO.

I for one appreciate a good S&W revolver. My taste tends to prefer the older square butt K and N guns with the heavy barrels that blended in to the frame. The PC guns seem to me to be a weirdly sculpted barrel attached to a standard frame and they do not look good together. THEY LOOK LIKE A TAURUS... ARGHHHHHHH!!!

I cannot complain about the performance though. They shoot great. I also used to shoot PPC back twenty plus years ago and had a S&W Model 10 with a BIG 1" diameter, 6" long Douglas barrel on it. Looked ugly but could sure bring home the bacon.

Kermit,

For me, the answer is yes. For you, well... it sorta depends on what you're looking for.

The difference in function and accuracy is virtually nill.

For the approx $250 bump in price you get:

Unique combinations unavailable elsewhere, sights, barrel lengths or contours, grips, finishes, etc.

Higher resale value.

Collectability in many models.

A whippy case.

Good Luck...

Joe
