Does anyone here have any experience with the new S&W Performance Center Model 627, 5", 8 shot? Looks like a sweet revolver but it ain't cheap. Any personal experiences, opinions or anecdotes would be appreciated.
I have a Performance Center 657 Light Hunter (.41 Magnum), and it is a very smooth and particularly accurate gun. I owned a Performance Center model 19 before that. I think the guns are well worth the money. Of course I also own four S&W .357's that are NOT Performance Center guns, and I like them quite well also. At least one of those guns has an action that will give the Performance Center gun a run for its money, but I had to wear it in to get it to that point.
i think the 8 shot .357 is extremely efficient packaging and the 5" barrel has always just looked "right" to balance the size of the N-frame.
i've been impressed by the performance center wheelguns that i've been able to handle...but not yet able to afford...and think they are worth the tariff the are asking.
but my personal desire, at the moment, is the 327Sc model with snubby barrel
I like mine. I ended up owning this particular S & W through a rather convoluted path but it's a great gun. I don't use it as my carry weapon but best not break into the house.
Hey Tom, thanks for the info. I can see where it might not be the ideal everyday carry gun, weighing in at 44oz. empty. Do you have a holster for yours, or are you aware of anyone who makes one for that gun? I did a brief google search and came up empty, but confess that I need to look more thoroughly.
Yes, it's a lot of money and yes, my buddy's 686 is almost as accurate...
Still, I think the 627 is just a tough gun to not like. the DA is smooth and light, the SA is clean, crisp and consistent. The ONLY thing I don't like - the LACK of available holsters !
