I'm a BIG Hallowe'en nut, always have been. I'm fortunate enough to have several friends that also go "all out". This year, I was going to be a "Generic European Militant Hollywood Badguy" (you know, like the guys on Die Hard) but that seems like a BAAD idea now. Anyway, now I'm "Solid Snake" from "Metal Gear Solid". I'm rambling.
I only say that to explain why I bought an AirSoft 6mm pistol. I purchased the HK USP look-alike, since I already have the holster for it, and I was only going to use it for that one purpose. I paid $21.50 total for it, which is a really good price I think. (The UTL fits it too )
Well, it feels SO real, and the detail is SO close, that I got bored today, and took a cardboard box, cut out a square, and taped a target over it. From one end of the room to the other (14'), I have managed so far to make ONE large hole, that is centered in the 9 ring! It's GREAT! The only range close by is on Ft. Benning, which as you can imagine, is CLOSED now.
I have also used this gun to follow up with my son on gun safety before a trip to the ONLY range available now, 45 minutes away.
Hey, it isn't as fun as the real thing, and I'm sure that some "pellet pistols" would be more accurate, but for $20, I can shoot IN THE HOUSE into a cardboard box and have NO fears at all. I also got brave and shot the wall... no hole, no dent. Then I got dumb and shot the palm of my hand at close range. STUNG like crap, but no damage at all. There are models available to match most any common handgun, as well as a few (more expensive) that duplicate the MP5, AR15, etc.
I'm excited that I got extra use of it, and I just wanted to share.
PS - I'm not a complete idiot... I plan to paint the magazine baseplate bright orange before Hallowe'en, and I won't wear it into any stores, or "trick or treating" with the kids, only to the same hallowe'en party we go to every year with the above mentioned, GUN OWNING friends. And I'll treat it like a real gun, no pointing at anyone, or allowing anyone who's gun handling abilities I don't know to handle it.
