An unidentified man is taken from a medical helicopter at St. Josephs Hospital in Phoenix. Five people were shot at a Sun City homeowners association meeting.

(Peoria, AZ)- A gunman walked into a homeowners' meeting at a Peoria recreational center and shot five people, killing one. He was arrested and is being held at the scene at Beardsley and 109th Avenue.

A 75-year-old woman who was shot in the head and shoulders is dead.

The shooting occurred about 2 p.m. at a homeowners meeting at the Yacht Club recreational center at Ventana Lakes.

A worker in the Ventana office building one block away said she didn't hear the shots fired but workers were alerted by police that a man had gone into the homeowners' meeting and opened fire.

At least two victims including the dead woman were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center. A man was shot in the chest.

There were conflicting reports about the identity of the shooter. One male victim told paramedics that he didn't recognize the shooter, while witnesses at the scene said he might have been a board member.

Couldn't we have gotten through one day this week without a high-profile shooting?!

Local news website says his "M-16" jammed, allowing several witnesses to grab the shooter and hold him for the police. He is said to be a man who lost his home at auction after losing a lawsuit with the HOA.

Keep in mind that in today's political climate, ALL shootings are "high profile", no matter how small the casualty list.

It's the anti's biggest advantage.

A bit related ....

A very good female friend of ours has lived in the same covenant-controlled home for the past 10 years.

She is now in the middle of a lawsuit against her HOA because her house paint doesn't match the scheme of the whole rest of the neighborhood.

Even though she hasn't ever painted her house - it was bought new at the onset of the development - she is still in violation.

You see, everyone else has painted their homes outside of the paint scheme originally set forth. Subtlelly, but different.

Even though she is the only one who conforms to the original tenants, she is in violation & a big stink.

Almost sounds like a parable, don't it?

As I recall, Ventana Lakes is an 'adult community'.

So, I guess that does it. We have to pass some laws to keep firearms out of the hands of people over 55.

This is another senseless tragedy. Just like the child drownings we hear about in Phoenix every couple of weeks. Of course, we don't pass new laws every time there's a drowning. I wonder why?
