Penn & Teller - Split a Bullet on a Butter Knife

I saw part of Penn and Teller Tell a Lie the other night but fell asleep before the end. I don't know if this was the lie or not.

Based on the video, and Bill Davis' reaction, looks real.

Prior to the butter knife, they did it with a samurai sword, not much of a stretch there.

Did anyone happen to see it? Was it the lie? Pretty cool video. I thought the knife would be toast. :D

I couldn't find the video of the sword but here is the butter knife.

No, that wasn't the lie. The butter knife split the bullet for real, that is if you call breaking it into hundreds of pieces splitting it. The Samurai blade split it cleanly in half.

(If you're curious, the termites blowing up a house was the lie. When Gillette said it was equivalent to 5,000 lbs of TNT, the BSometer pegged.)

I can do it too

In the long ago past I split a 22LR bullet with a dull knife on my kitchen table. Soft lead is sectile so the Penn & Teller stunt is no great deal; but, it is entertaining to watch.

Thanks, I was curious. I saw the lead in to the house, I think that was when naptime began. :D

You're right, "splitting it" wasn't a very accurate description. I really thought it would have done a lot more damage to the knife and not so much to the bullet. The samurai was a very clean cut, high speed photography always amazes me.
