I have found a rifle at a local shop. I am pretty sure it is a John Bodine unfired for $1100 but can't seem to find info in the Cat number...it is marked Cat#12825 but about all the Pedersolis I have found have numbers in the 3000 range or something like that.
Supposedly the rifle was bought at Cabelas maybe 3 to 6 yrs ago,
Any info appreciated

I can't help with the catalog number but figure that if it looks like a Bodine and has all the features of a Bodine, then it might as well be a Bodine.
Dixie has three variants, the least expensive is $1400.
So if you are sure it is unfired and you really want a Bodine, that seems not a bad store price.
Caution: Catalog weight is over the NRA limit for BPCR silhouette, if that interests you.

If it's a Pedersoli it will have a lower case dp in a circle and it will have a date code consisting of two letters in a box.

It's a Pedersoli all right.... and 99% sure it is a Bodine. Just have not checked the barrel length yet...guess they come in 30 and 34 inch from what I have found
The shop has it on consignment and it has been there quite awhile.
It belongs to a guy that has more guns than the ATF and money is no object. He and his brother bought a pair of them for a buffalo hunt that never happened some time back. He is in Canada right now and the shop cant get ahold of him. Was hoping to get it for 950 but seeing what they go for I might just go down tomorrow and cough up the 1100..BUT I am a tightwad Yankee and I develop a nervous tick if I pay asking price for anything ;-).
I am not concerned with official competition. ...Just want to have a fun gun to play with.
What is the maximum reasonable accuracy range? Kind of wanted a 45-90 but maybe later
I suppose now I have to look for molds, dies, brass, melting pot etc.. I can tell this is going to be another fun time money pit
Thanks

There are people who say you need a .45-2.4" (.45-90 in Winchesterspeak) to shoot farther than 700-800 yards.
Then there are the people who go right ahead shooting their .45-2.1" (.45-70) at 1000 yards and actually hitting the target.

Me? I have no access to anything beyond 600 yards but that is ok, it is plenty far enough to me.
One thing and another, I got out of bullet casting.
Dave Jennings, dba Montana Bullet Works, sells custom cast bullets good enough to get me into AAA class for silhouette and Expert Midrange.

His prices are high enough that you might eventually want to set up to cast, but you can certainly make a good start with storebought.

Disclosure, I don't have a .45-anything, I shoot .40-65 and .38-55.
