Pearl or plastic?

I found a set of "pearl" k frame grips in a pawn shop junk box this weekend. At ten bucks, I couldn't say no. The question now is pearl or plastic? My first immpression was plastic but now I'm not so sure. The "pearl" material has wood backing for one thing. Most plastic or resin grips are one material all the way through. The "pearl" is also yellowing here and there. Does anyone know how to tell the difference? What famous person said, " These grips are ivory, only a pimp in a New Orleans whorehouse carries a pistol with pearl grips" ?

They sound like the Jay Scott brand of grips, plastic "pearl" with a wood backing. They came in both white and black "pearl". Real perl grips of ash trays or what ever would not yellow like ivory or bone. Different material all together.
