Pearl handles

There's just something about pearl handles that make me think of a New Orleans riverboat. Anybody else have some on their revolvers??

I have MOP on my Gold Cup, They look as if you could dip your hand into them. Beau-tee-full, however they come off when I shoot the gun because MOP is fragile The thought of cracking those very expensive grips sends chills down my back. Ivory is also very nice, I have a set on my blue 1903 Colt Hammerless, I purchased those 42 years ago for the out rageous price of 20 dollars.:D

More like a Riverboat Pimp's gun. Real MOP is very fragilie, nice for display but yes they break real easy. You can get imitation which still looks pretty good but stands abuse much better.

Real mother of pearl is very durable, but it's brittle. Dropping your gun will break them. Otherwise real pearl is a great handle material.

Pearl is pretty, but should only be used for display purposes. As it ages it begins to develop cracks and chips, while turning an uneven yellowish brown. Rubbing gun oil on it isn't recommended. Recoil usually causes them to crack, especially if the grips loosen up a bit. Pearl is very unforgiving where the slightest abuse is concerned. They tend to age like an old hag. On the other hand ivory develops beauty as it ages. The cracks along with some yellowing brings out it's character and as it's held in the hand radiates a warmth that makes the weapon a pleasure to hold and shoot. Ivory is just lovely like a sexy woman that likes to be handled. Tried to send A COUPLE OF PICS. BUT COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT.

COuntZerO: That's a great line from the movie Patton. It's the reason I put the pearl grips on this pistol in the first place. This is my first nickel plated revolver,so I figured what the heck.

I could be wrong, but I believe that this is Patton's complete assertion:

"Only a pimp in a New Orleans whorehouse or a tin-horn gambler would carry a pearl-handled pistol."

That having been said, does having fake pearl grips on your pistol make you even more of a low-life than a pimp or a tin-horn gambler? If so, I'm more socially unacceptable than the wife says I am!

Now all you need is a red velvet lined case to store it.

You're right....they do look better in a red velvet case!

Pearl Handles?

In my 50 years of shooting, I found that pearl handles look pretty but,
are slick when you pick the gun up.
There are semi-Ivory grips that might serve you better.

aaronds little gun

aarond, as part of a complicated trade I picked up a little gun like the one you show with pearl grips. Mine has pearl grips too. I have no idea what this thing is. Do you know any thing about it?

Hello thibaultfelix40,,,

It's either an RG or a ROHM,,,
Both were cheap German made imports in the late 50's/early 60's

They are the epitome of the Saturday Night Special.

Last year I saw an unfired specimen,,,
New in Box with all paperwork,,,
Sold for $95.00 on gunbroker
