So I've done some down home country redneck ballistics tests the past few days.
This is by no means professional or scientific ..... Just some curiosity when choosing a SD round for my Glock 23.
This is also by no means an advertisement.
First test had approx 18" of soaked wet newspaper. All rounds went within a couple inches of penetration but the results were drastic.
Facts :
Test 1 :
2 Winchester PDX1's
2 Federal HST
18" soaked Newspapers
Test 2:
1 Winchester Ranger
1 Winchester PDX1
1 Federal HST
6" Soaked Newspaper + 12" water
The results of Test 1 :
Both PDX1's expanded very similarly to other pics on the web, Each one had a wider expansion and "prongs" on a specific side.
One HST expanded in a very flat not "prong" way , but the width was good.
The second one lost all width and the only thing we were able to recover was the non expanded base of the bullet ( about 1/2 an inch long )
( these bullets were taken by a friend of mine prior to my decision to make this post )
Test 2 results :
As per previous tests the PDX1's expanded very similarly.
HST expanded in a wider diameter both with limited cuts in the lead mass
The Ranger resulted in a VERY flat lead result and lost it's jacking all together.
The second test ended with some small dents in the bottom of the bucket of water. I'm thinking the Ranger may have struck the bottom of the bucket causing such an extremely flat result. ( Which would add to penetration results over the other two )
( Pictures will follow )
But for what I found ... the PDX1's are definitely my new SD choice going forward...
Now to talk my Fiance' into helping me make some homemade ballistics Gel

And to document it all with video/pics.
