PDRCA felony after Jan 1?

swifter...

New member
I got a local gun club's newsletter stating, in one column, that after Jan 1, 2001, in california, anyone found in possesion of a handgun (any gun?) that is not registered to them is guilty of a felony.

Has anyone got any facts on this?
If true, does anyone know the mechanism to register? I have revolvers I've owned 25-30 years that were purchased private party, and a couple that are family heirlooms that are not now, and never have been registered.
I gotta get out of here, but it'll take another year or so!

George,
Think real hard about what you just wrote. Red or Blue-nah! Red, white and blue. Pretty clever media ploy to use red for the anti-Reds, don'tcha think? Course I'm an old fart that remembers the "Better dead than Red" line of the cold war era. I honestly felt a pang or two seeing and hoping for more States to go red during the count.

I have not heard of this law going into effect. Always question what you hear from gun shops. No one is going to run out and register their guns on the first. Usually registration demands are met with about %10 compliance and they are not enforced. From Canada to California, they have tried to put registration laws into effect, and no one listens or cares, and no one ever gets prosecuted. I would be skeptical of your information, because I have not heard of it and it is not from a reliable source. Try to find the law yourself and read it for yourself, there is a lot of bad secondhand info out there.

For one thing, registration is unconstitutional. The Supreme court ruled that even felons do not have to register their guns as they are protected under the fourth clause of the Bill of Rights.
