Pawn shop rescue Rem 581

Found a old 581 missing the magazine and sights today being sold as a part gun for $50 even. Got home and stuck a magazine in it and to my suprise it snapped in and out properly. Gonna try a snap cap in the morning and if the firing pin strikes properly I'm going to test safety and clean it for live fire. Can't hardly use iron sights so a 4 power scope might bring this old warrior back to life. Updates to come!

Nice.

The Remington 5 series .22s are spectacular guns. I have my Father's 521T that he bought new in the late 1940s.

It is, by far, the most accurate 22 I've ever shot. I put a Weaver C4 scope on it years ago and used it to whack a ton of squirrels before I moved to Virginia.

I bought my 581 as a parts gun and now it's my favorite rifle. That gun is a keeper for sure so take your time and do it right.

I bought a new Rem 581 in the early '80s when my favorite shop was going out of business. I think I paid $100.00 for it and it's still one of the best shooting .22s I have. The good son will get that one some day when I'm done with it.

They really are great guns. I've just never liked that funky looking front sight they put on them. It would have looked great with a ramp-type front sight.
