Pawn Shop Citori

My latest find is an older Browning Citori. It has 30 inch tubes and shoots 3in shells. Wood and blue. It has a few dings in the metal and more than a few in the wood. Functions great got it for 300 out the door. Anyway I was planning on having it re-done until I noticed the serial number 27XX thats right four digits. Is there any reason I should not have it refinished?

is there a 2 letter code after the 4 digits in the serial number ?

Does it have screw in chokes / or are the chokes fixed ?

All Citoris are Japanese, but many folks do not realize that and think Brownings are all Japanese. Getting a clarification is all.

Get it refinished if you want - make it like you want it to be, including any aftermarket stock modifications to make it fit you better

I agree with OneOunce ...but still waiting for your clarification on the rest of the serial number and specs on the gun so we can date it as well.

A low serial number on a Citori isn't really a big deal - at least in general. None of the Citori models - at least in grade 1 wood - are collectors items anyway...

You paid $ 300 for the gun / I'm assuming it has fixed chokes ...and refinishing the stock isn't going to hurt the value - in fact it may improve the value if you put a finish on it similar or as close to the original as possible - and just shoot it and enjoy it.

But if you have the rest of the serial number - we can date it for you / or go to the Browning website and figure it out yourself.

Ha didn't even look under the lever two letter code is PZ.
Yes it has a fixed choke. I'm happy with the gun no matter what, it just seemed like a low number and I thought I would ask before it gets a trip to the smith

Ok, so the gun was made in 1981 .....

refinishing it will improve the value / especially if you get the color and finish on the wood close to the original.

I would not get too aggressive with sandpaper / you don't want to change the contours of the stock or forend. Re-bluing it / if its done professionally - will help value / but the cost is probably prohibitive - so I'd leave the metal alone.
