Howdy, Foax! I’d like to palaver with anyone who’s had experience with the Lockhart Shotgun Pattern Gauge (http://www.gunnersden.com/index.htm.shotgun-patterns.html). (No, Old Son, I know you know how to pattern a turkey gun and are anxious to share your knowledge, but that’s not what we’re after here.) Briefly, I understand that, in the same manner that the Law assumes the existence of a “reasonable and prudent man,” the LSPG assumes the existence of an “all-around shotgunner” who will proof the choke of his 2 3/4” 12 ga. using a “middle” load selection of a 1 1/8 oz. load of No. 6 shot. My question is simply, what relevance has this to patterning a 2 3/4” 12 ga. turkey gun using Hevi-Shot? If one simply uses the LSPG and a “middle” load to confirm his choke and identify possible defects in the barrel, does this information carry over in any meaningful way when we start talkin’ turkey?
