Patriot Day is April 19. Celebrate appropriately.

Hey guys (and gals), what's the most politically incorrect date in American History? Why, its Patriot Day, April 19!

This was the day that a handful of farmers and shopkeepers repelled some 1800 British troops because they were coming to seize the weapons and ammunition of the local militias in Concord and Lexington.

Liberals hate it that "the shot heard round the world" wasn't about taxes or freedom or any of that stuff. It was about using force to thwart gun control measures (gasp! banish the thought!).

Last year I swore that I would celebrate by doing something to honor the memories of people who had enough sack to stand up and say "this is the line, do not cross." So, on April 19th (a Wednesday this year) I am celebrating by, what else, spending the day at the range honing my meager shooting skills.

If anyone wants to get together, let me know. I live near San Diego.

"The fact is that the average man's love of liberty is nine-tenths imaginary, exactly like his love of sense, justice and truth. He is not actually happy when free; he is uncomfortable, a bit alarmed, and intolerably lonely. Liberty is not a thing for the great masses of men. It is the exclusive possession of a small and disreputable minority, like knowledge, courage and honor. It takes a special sort of man to understand and enjoy liberty - and he is usually an outlaw in democratic societies." -- H.L. Mencken, February 12, 1923, Baltimore Evening Sun
