Patience on reloading components pays off

My patience waiting to buy powder finally paid off, although I admit it took quite a while, I have been waiting over a year to by 8 pounds of 2230 without having to pay a hazmat fee.

The rest of my components are ready to go, I can load 1K rounds of 55gr FMJ BT and 1K rounds of SS109 penetrator and have less than a pound left over.

I shopped components to do a large batch of 9mm and .223 blasting/plinking ammo. It paid off well!

I loaded 1,000 124g coated lead MBC 9mm last weekend with HS-6. If I remember correctly I have around $130 in it

I was able to get 1,000 rounds of 50g ZMAX for cheap, still loading them.

Gotta ask. Was the $28.50 hazmat fee worth a year's wait?

Yes, The wait for a specific large batch did not hurt me, the hazmat fee may not be a large sum of money, but for a long time it was difficult to spread it over a large powder order. I'm working on transitioning my buying/reloading habits back to being able to spread the hazmat fee over a large powder order. The hazmat is a fee on top of the shipping costs as well.

To load 2K rounds of 5.56 is only a very small percentage of components I have on hand at any one time.

iraiam, I live north C/S and Sportsman''s has 8lbs 2230 for $179. plus tax. I haven't been to GS Denver but I would think you could get it there. DAD's price is shipping no hazmat.

Two things come to mind,
The first is a local firearms dealer, sometimes they will include your request when they order reducing your share of the hazmat cost.
You usually have to be frendly with owner or pay in advance for that one.
Some people don't get along with anyone, some don't live close enough to a firearms shop to get frendly.

The second is a 'MAG' (mutual aid group). Like minded folks working together.
These days, its hard to find anyone that can agree on anything, moderation isn't 'Acceptable' these days.
The local MAG can get about 48 pounds shipped, powder, primers, so we post what we want & when it reaches the 48 pound mark we order.
Spreads out the hazmat fee over several smaller orders.

I'm lucky enough to have a dozen local gun shops/big box outdoor stores, within 30 miles from my house that all sell reloading components. A couple of them cater to the reloader so I have never had to mail order powder/primer.

I just wait on them to overstock something and then put it on sale.
