Passing on a tip...spare ear plugs in a Glock

A few weeks ago I wanted to shoot my pistol while at my father's house. Did not realize that I had no hearing protection. I like hearing, so had to pass on the shooting.

Got to thinking about that and came up with this idea to cram a package of soft ear plugs in the void of a handle of my pistols. BTW, this works with a compact and a subcompact Glock. Here[s a little Youtube video.

I think other brands of polymer handled guns also have voids like this. Not real pretty, but it works. Just passing on the tip.

I always have 2-3 ear muffs in my car at a time. If I didn't drive my car to a place and I wanted to go shooting though, then Id be out of luck

Thats a pretty good idea. I (usually) never forget hearing protection, but the people I shoot with often do.
Yep, Because of this I bought a package of disposable ear plugs, and keep them in my car as well. There is nothing more annoying then when I go out shooting with a buddy, and there all like "man, I forgot my ear plugs, can you just share your earmuffs with me?"
This happened to me multiple times with multiple people so now I am prepared lol

Now where could I put those spare safety glasses......

Good idea, though.

I have a truck bag, a Maxpedition messenger bag, that I keep a few bottles of water, granola bars, beef jerky, first aid/trauma kit, ammo, spare mags, knives, multi-tool, pens, notepad, handheld GPS, handheld CB Radio, and ear plugs and shooting glasses. I have another bag under the backseat with a few changes of clothes and shoes for each member of my family. My wife has similar bags in the under-floor storage compartments of her mini-van.

Some people call it a bug-out bag, I just call it my truck bag. Most everything I've wound up needing has been readily available in the bags... Makes the "little emergencies" less so, and just generally makes life a little easier when you're a busy father.

I keep at least two pairs of ear muffs in my vehicle, and a cased pair of reusable ear plugs in my pocket at all times (unless I am taking a drug test for work). I also have ear muffs and ear plugs that are stored in my range bag, chainsaw case, etc.. Your hearing is very important.

How does one "share" earmuffs? Two people can't wear one pair at the same time, and if you trade off the person who isn't shooting has no protection.

There is only one answer to the above question: "No."

Clue, what do you shoot with?

Now I have an excuse to buy a Glock.

Code:
lol :) I know right? The couple times I did it, when I let my buddy borrow while he shot, I would take a few steps back and just cover my ears with my hands. I am such a nice guy haha

I bought a box of foam ear plugs at Lowes home improvement store. I hate wearing the dang things, so I always have the regular type which I keep in my range bag. The extra foam plugs are for those who wander over/down to see what I am shooting.

I always offer hearing protection for those that do not have it.

Here's the procedure:

The participant currently shooting wears the earmuffs while the participant currently observing take ten paces back away from the firing line and inserts the index fingers of each hand into the respecive ears.

While sometimes necessary, it is a rather inconvenient procedure. As if standing back with one's digits in one's ears weren't bothersome enough, earwax isn't exactly the best gun lubricant.

Oh man, but now that you put it out here on the innerwebs- by next week at least three folks will have come along and swear up and down that it is!:p

I usually have a pair of muffs in the car but I've gotten creative in the past when I've not had them. Cotten balls, tissue paper... Those seem to work fine for me outdoors.

:eek::eek:

WHAT? I can't hear your spelling!:D

It doesn't drown out the noise as well and, depending on how much cerumen you produce, might still cause the "extra lube" issue

Now that you put it that way, it seems to be a serious issue. LOL

Yep, I have disposable ear plugs everywhere. Car, truck, around the house. I even find them in pockets, (hint-they're no good if they've been through the washer/dryer.:)).

Somehow every day I seem to make it home with a pair of disposable ear plugs. I put them in a sandwich bag. I have one full sandwich bag in the truck, and one in my range bag. Mrs. M&P has several pairs in the night stand on her side of the bed. She lies to people, and says I snore when I sleep. Also I have some of the key chain holder containers with a pair in them. I keep one of the loop of each of my rifle slings. The Mrs. has a pair on the sling of her rifles as well.
