Parts guns and books...

Hey guys I need some input. I have been shooting alot the last five years and have the thirst to go that next step and truelly understand my firearms and as many others as I can. I have a mechanical mind that has an itch that needs scratched.

What are some good books to get me started?

Also, is there a good source for junk (parts) guns to be had on the cheap? I want them just to be able to take apart and put my hands on the smaller items. The best thing I did when I was a teenager to understand cars was I bought a junker, took it apart (everything besides the interior) and put it back together again. I want to do the same thing with a few revolvers and a semi-auto or two.

Thanks in advance,

If you post the specifics on the guns you're interested in, I suspect you will get some specific recommendations on resources for learning about those guns. ;)

I would like to actually go from one to the next. Say learn the 1911 platform then move onto something like the XD...so on and so on...Is there a book or books that go through the operation of different types of firearms and their parts? If there are more than one which would you recommend?

Thanks in advance,

Don't overlook the NRA books

For generations the NRA has sold handbooks on disassembly of long guns and handguns. Excellent references for hundreds of classic guns, how to take them down, and put them back together.
