Parkerized vs. Stainless vs. Armor Tuff or other finish like that.

I've decided to get my self a nice 1911 sometime in the next year or so. I need to decide what it will be finished in.

How do these stack up, in corrosion resistance, wear, looks, etc.

I said armor tuff because I'm seriously thinking about getting a KZ 45 from Wilson. Thanks.

There are quite a few gun finishes available now days to chose from. If you like a dark color look, then I would say that any of the baked on teflon finishes would be great. The only disadvantage is that if scratch through the finish, then you now have a "chink in the armor" and rust could possibly occur at that spot... Other available coatings that are lighter in color are nickel and hardchrome... I feel that hardchrome is the better of the two in terms of durability and rust resistance. Nickel is more of a golden/yellowish in color and is easier to scratch than hard chrome... Hard chrome is more white in color and can be had high polished or matte. High polishing hard chrome closes the pores and makes it very rust resistant and durable...

A stainless steel frame and slide is good in terms that even if you scratch it, you are not breaking through any kind of coating like the above added on finishes...

Decide if you want a dark or light colored gun look and then that will help to steer you to a finish... Nowdays, there are a lot of quality finishes available, and a lot of the decision has to do with what looks/feels good to you - matte, shiny, dark, light, slippery, etc...

Well I can tell you! that I LOVE my Colt 80 SS its 10yrs old now. About 1200rds down range? The best thing about it is, ease of Maintence. No Rust! One thing I do is give my 1911 2or 3 times a year a real Good cleaning. I hose it down with brake cleaner! Now I would NOT do that with a blued gun! I own a S&W 686 and a S&W 640. As you can tell I like SS !!! Jeff
