Parkerized or Blued? M590

I am looking to get a Mossberg 590 in mil-spec configuration (Heat Shield). I carried one durring my time in the Marines and I thought it would be nice to have one of my own. My problem is the decision between parkerized or blued.

Is parkerized that much tougher? I was leaning towards it when I thought the initial cost difference was $20, but I am not able to get this configuration except for one I found that is $50 over the blued version. I figure for $50 I could pay to have it reblued a few years down the road. Is it hard/expensize to get a gun reparkerized? I would think it would be much more then blueing. Budget is a big consideration for me right now also. Also the blued is actual configuration in the Corps, though I like the flatter look of parkerized.

Don't bother trying to convince me to get another shotgun. I want this as a reminder of what I carried in the Corps and due to my formilurarity with it.... but don't confuse it for a collectors item, I will be shooting the S**T out of it.
 
Go for the blue. If maintained, a blued shotgun can take lots of use without corroding. And, since this is a nostalgia item, it keeps what you recall intact.
 
590A1

has steel receiver and steel safety (and bayonet lug) and comes Park'd. I ground the toe of the recoil pad off mine so it is less pointy. Mine is model 51660, plain sights, 20" barrel, 8-round magazine.

The 590A1 is the mil-spec one. Not the 590.

I can see how that page could lead you to think the 590A1 was the mill spec but read carefully.

The 590A1 was built 20 years after the mossberg 590 passed milspec.... trust me I carried a 590 for years.
I did consider getting the A1 version, but heatshield is not an option. I know it's about useless on a civilian gun, but to me it just dosen't seem right without it.
 
FYI

The Mossberg heat shield will fit, but you have to come up with a way to secure it in place as the factory-supplied hardware won't fit. I'm using stainless steel cotter pins for now (longer than the supplied fasteners), after dremeling out the plastic locking tab to accept them.

Yes but it was a running joke, everyone knew a standard M9 bayonet would not fully lock on the lug. We tried many times, no idea why they put it there if it didn't work. I still have a M9 Bayonet and I will double check but I'm not expecting this one to work either, maybe with some dremel work it will lock.

As for if the Marines have gone to the 590A1 now, I was actually under the impression they were moving to the Bernelli M4 Super 90 known as the M1014 Combat Shotgun. No idea if the change has taken affect and they are in full use now. Remember though, I am buying this because it is what I carried when I was in (95-99) It is not being bought as the current gun in use.

Went and paid for it, threw some lead down range and boy did it bring back memorys. I'm glad I got it. Now to wait till I actually can bring it home with me :)

Uh, I hope you didn't shoot it at the range with the bayonet on.

That really can upset some folks(G)....
