Parker-Hale actions

Guys,

Do any of you know what anything about the parker hale recievers. A friend of mine and I are curious about them and their makeup. Nobody that I have talked to seems to know much about them. Not even if they are heat treated. My bud is an engineer and has the facilities now to do rockwell testing and other analysis so we may try to determin what they are made of purely for information purposes. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

I know that there were concerns about the integrity of the receivers (heat treatment). They also had the same barrel threads as the large ring Mausers.

This put a good supply of heavy, well made 308 barrels on the market waiting to be mated to a K98 or Yugo action....

I have two 'crown grade' Parker Hale rifles, one in 25-06 and one in 30-06. Both have been shot a lot, the 25-06 has over 4000 rounds through it. Never a stitch of trouble out of them. They are also some of the smoothest actions I have found. Both shoot quite well also, the 25-06 is easliy sub moa as far as you care to shoot. The 30-06 is moa to a minute and a half with ammo it likes.

I have a Parker Hale Super 1200 in .270...shoots like a dream with the lighter and heavier bullets for this caliber and is capable of sub moa...with the right handload in a sporter weight barrel.

Parker-Hale rifles and actions were first-rate quality firearms.
The rifles were originally made in England until 1991 when Navy Arms bought the company and moved production to the US.

Their actions are fully heat treated and have been used for many years as the base for top-quality custom rifles.

These actions were basically slightly modified Mauser 98 copies.

Somebody (Canadian marksmanship training, maybe) had a bunch of them with 308 heavy barrels on them with issues.

The take off barrels dried up about 2003.

Parker-Hale

Dear shooter:
Just absolutely first rate quality actions! Some were sold by Heters and weren't a well finished as the Parker-Hales but still first rate actions.
The Parker Hale action has a slight caming action as you close the bolt!

I purchased my Parker Hale model 1200 in 1978 with a Redfield scope for $125.00 NIB :D Seems the local gunshop owner purchased some at a gunshow to sell. Here in the Piney Woods of SE Texas back then if it didnt say Remington or Winchester folks didnt buy it. Actually the Rifle was $125.00and he threw in the Redfield Scope to get me to buy it..lol.

Just think my Rifle is older than a lot of the posters on TFL:D

Thanks for the information guys. We will just see what comes of other information sources I am looking into as well. My friend an me may get a couple and just play with them if we can get the bare recievers cheap enough.

Dear Shooter:
I think Herters sold the barreled actions, just the actions, or the whole rifle - as I remember that.

Commercial action...

The Parker Hale bolt action is a commercial Mauser built by Santa Barbara of Spain (or at least Frank de Haas thinks it is). These rifles were also sold under other names - I have one I got in 1972 from J C Penny's under their Foremost trade name. It has the "Z" serial number that characterizes these actions. Mine is in '06 and will shoot MOA with good handloads. The only difference between the Foremost and the Parker Hale 1200 is that the wood on the Foremost is not as nice and the trigger is non adjustable.

The rifle is currently under conversion to .35 Whelen...
