I work part-time at a pawn shop and spend quite alot of time giving TLC to guns neglected by their former owners. A works of advice use liberal amounts of oil (I like the remmington in a spray can) and a very light hand. Gently rub the affected area. I use circular motion like waxing a car. Spritz with more oil wipe with a clean cloth. Inspect, re oil repeat. If your careful you can pull this off without "ruining" the blueing or rainbow toning. For this process you CAN'T use too much oil - Just be sure to leave only a thin film when storing. Also chech unter the stock and forearm. I've seen firearms that looked well taken care of theat were covered with scales of "Army Gold" under the wood.
