Pardner Pump or ?

Hey all. I have recently become very ineterested in getting a PPP. My 870's ejector spring broke, and although it still cycles and functions, it is less reliable as far as chambering and ejecting shells. As a result, I am looking into getting a Pardner Pump Protector, for the simple fact that I have heard they are inexpensive, reliable, and have the ergonomics of the 870. So should I just let my 870 soldier on as is and deal or ? Any replies greatly appreciated.

From what I understand, the spring is rivetted to the receiver. I was told by a gunsmith that the receiver would have to be drilled out to be able to replace the spring. Although the shells eject, ejection is not as reliable as I mentioned, and the spent shells are not ejected as far from the port.

Getting the 870 fixed will still be cheaper than buying another shotgun, even an inexpensive one. And the 870 needs to be fixed... a broken ejector spring isn't that big a deal. Stuff breaks sometimes.

But if you just want a Pardner Pump, I don't think you'll be unhappy with it if you get one.

You can never go wrong getting the Pardner shotgun. If anything it is more reliable than a new production 870 Express. For $200.00 it is worth every penny. Remington is doing us all a big favor importing the Pardner shotguns. Thank you Remington.

There's a rivet that holds the ejector spring in place, and it will have to be faced off with a drill or an end mill to get the old spring out. Open your bolt and you can see this rivet at the forward end of the ejector body near the barrel extension inside the receiver (Part #16 at http://www.urban-armory.com/diagrams/rem870.htm ). There's no need to drill out the rivet itself, just to remove the head inside the receiver that's swaged to hold the spring in place. No drill should ever touch the receiver itself.

When the old rivet is removed it will have to be replaced with a new one to hold the new spring in place. Done carefully it won't be necessary to completely reblue the receiver- the rivet head can be faced down to fit the outside profile of the receiver and touched up with cold blue once it is set.
