Para Super Hawg jamming issues

I have a Para Super Hawg, 1911 .45 caliber double stack magazine.

Usually the last round in my magazine causes the gun to jam. The cartridge gets up the ramp and into the chamber but doesn't get pushed all the way in and the slide sticks trying to push it in.

This happens on both magazines that came with the gun when I bought it brand new. I've put over 500 rounds through it. I'm using the FMJ round point winchester 45 ACP ammo.

I've read of one more person having this issue but on a different gun made by para, which is also double stack. I think this might be a magazine issue but not quite sure. I plan to call Para tomorrow but in the meantime I wanted to see what you guys thought. Maybe someone has experienced this issue before on a 1911 and can offer some insight.

I plan to use this gun for CCW so I want this issue to be fixed.

Superhawg is the 6" barreled doublestack? How big of a backpack do you plan on carrying it in?

I've heard of this problem with some taurus 1911s. I believe what the resolution was is to polish the chamber to a barely larger diameter, the smoothness helps too. If you put a light coat of oil on the bullets, does the problem persist? Thats usually another good fix.

EDIT; The problem could also be with an extractor tension that is too tight. When the extractor is too tight, the rim of the cartidge can't push the extractor outwards, thus not letting the cartridge chamber. I'm not sure why it would only be doing it on the last round though. I also haven't a clue as to how to adjust the power extractor.

IWB, not a backpack :P

I'm not into doing permanent modifications to my gun, I'd rather send it back to para for that kind of stuff. I could oil the bullets and see what happens, but even if that does fix it, it isn't a permanent solution unfortunately :(

Thanks for the tips.

Last round failure to feed?

Anyhow, the problem is consistent. I'm wondering if the slide is moving too fast. Slide speed is affected not only by the pressure generated by the cartridge and the recoil spring, but also by the pressure of the bullet being pushed upwards by the magazine spring against the slide. When you're down to the last bullet, the pressure is considerably less than with a fully loaded magazine. This may result in the slide unlocking faster than with the first dozen rounds (assuming your Para uses a thirteen shot magazine - sorry but I'm not familiar with the Hawg). The slide may be returning faster than the magazine can push the cartridge up (as the slide recoils back, it pushes the bullet slightly down and the magazine spring pushes the bullet back up in time for the feed rib to strip the bullet from the magazine).

Try shooting it with a couple magazines loaded with a different brand of FMJ RN.

Weak magazine spring (if it happens on last round only) You need extra power mag springs to get that last round up in time for it to feed. Also check for rough surfaces or burrs on the breechface and extractor hook. Anything that slows down the round coming up into the extractor will make the gun choke. Don't even think about polishing the feedramp. Never put oil on ammunition. Never.

Contact Para. If it's a new gun they ought to make it right. Don't do any modifications that might void any warranty.
