Para-STI Double stacks

Considering a DS 1911. Whats out there that is good quality? I want to stay under $2k-ish. Para looks like it can be had in the $1200 range. Is the quality anywhere near STI? Are there other brands i should be looking at?

Rock Island Armory makes double stack 9mm in their TAC series. It will not be the STI quality you seek, but may still be acceptable at its price point. Wilson Combat just came out with a new double stack 9mm but its street price will be well over your $2K budget (if you can find one).

Para does not exist any more, so if you're looking at Para you must be looking at used, or VERY old shelf stock. ParaUSA was bought out by Remington, and they killed off the Para name and the double stack pistols, and sold off all the parts inventory to Numrich and Sarco.

Word at this year's SHOT Show was that Remington will be bringing back a few of the double stack pistols later this year, under the Remington name. Haven't seen anything yet.

I've owned a few Paras over the years (all but one of mine were Para-Ordnance, made in Canada) and I'm a fanboy, but I'd have to say that most people would rate STI better than para.

The ParaUSA website is a left-over. Nobody can figure out why it's still up, since Remington killed the Para name two or three (or more? time flies) years ago.

Wilson are beautiful guns. But more than I want to spend. STI can be had between $1800- $2200 well equipped. I find myself asking the question. Is it worth it to get a 2011 or should I be looking at other choices. CZ & SIG is a great double stack.

The Para-USA guns are not hard to find on gunbroker NIB. They look to be in the $1000+- range. Do PARA use any parts that I can find someplace else?

There are very few proprietary parts on a Para double stack (trigger bow, mag release and extractor on some) and last I checked those are all available.
I have a older Canadian Para signature that is very well built, I wouldn't hesitate buying another Para if I found one at a bargain but I'm a fairly competent home smith.
I also have a STI VIP and build quality is top notch, I wouldn't hesitate for an instant recommending a STI if you can afford it.
Remember not only the difference in initial cost but spare mags for a STI are more than double Para mags.

CZ & SIG is a great double stack.

By referencing the CZ I guess means that you're not stuck on the 1911 format. The SIG Model 227 is a very nicely made, reliable, double-stack, da .45 auto that can be had for well under a grand.

Are there companies out there that still make para ds mags. At a min I would need to keep 4 mags going. This will likely be a gamer gun may even end up with 40 instead of my normal 9mm
I'm not stuck on the 1911/2011 format. I am a 1911 fan, but there are other solid choices.

I am a big fan of 1911's. Most of my guns are 1911's. This being said, my favorite gun to shoot is my CZ Accu Shadow. First thing I did was convert to SAO. The trigger rivals most of my 1911's.

Quick question though, what is the largest size mag allowed in Jersey?

15 rounds max in NJ. Thinking that sticking with my single stack 1911s and CZ double tack may be the bet route. After reading a little more about the games i feel like the guns are going to take a beating. Better to run cheaper guns with more readily available parts.
