Para Ordnance Question

Hey guys. Brand new to the site... I was referred here by Drundel over on the SDH board - he said I might get some answers from the vast pools of knowledge over here. :D

Anyway, here's the situation.... I recently got a Para Ordnance C7.45 (Para Companion) and I've put about 150 rounds through it. Well, last week I noticed that when an empty magazine is in the gun and I pull the slide back, it catches pretty hard on the disassembly notch. The slide will actually lock in place on that notch. But, if there is no clip in there the slide works as it should. I went and pulled a brand new C7.45 from the display case at the store where I bought it and that one does not do this. Also, if I release the empty magazine while the slide is caught on the disassembly notch then the slide will release. What's up with that? I'm concerned that over time this may cause some damage to the gun. Any thoughts? Thanks for any insight you can give me on this.

Sorry but I don't know the answer to your question but welcome to TFL! :D

I would suggest contacting Para Ordnance's technical asst. and see what they think...

Thanks kalibear... I'll check in here again when I get into work tomorrow and if no one has any ideas that'll probably be the route I'll go.

It sounds like the slide stop is engaging the disassembly notch, this is not supposed to happen. My guess is either the disassembly notch is oversized or burred, the slide stop is mis-machined, or the slide stop is slightly backing out of the frame and catching the disassembly notch.

I think Stans has it. The slide stop is probably out of shape such that the magazine folower pushes it outward as well as upward, causing it to engage at the takedown notch. Probably will have to be replaced, although it could have a detent cut to keep it in place.

Since it is a new gun, I recommend calling PO and letting them figure it out.

Will do. I'll let you guys how it all turns out. Might be a while though depending on Para's customer service.

why don't you just call jay krauter he is the service tech that services all para guns that are sent back for what ever reason
give him a call at 1-865-774-4970 i'm sure he will anser all your questions.

WOW...

That has to be one of the top 5 best interactions that I have EVER had with a company's customer service/technical support staff. He gave me some things to look at, mainly to check and see if the slide stop may be "popped" (i.e. check the distance between the slide stop and body) by a few degrees which is causing the unexpected engagement at the disassmbly notch. Top notch guy. I'm going to give it a look this weekend but I'll probably be sending it in to him next week.

lhkas, I really owe you one on this. Thanks again for helping me out. Ain't the Internet great?!?!?!

jay is a great guy to deal with,i sent my p-12-lda to him in tenn,
the slide wouldn't lock secure i had to tap it,mindyou this gun is over two years old he told me that the extractor was to tight, they corrected the problem and sent it back free.

It's good to know that they stand behind their product. I'm new to the handgun world and even though I've run into this small bump in the road I'm glad I went with Para Ordnance. It's a sweet gun and it sounds like they are committed to quality. Thanks again and I'll let you know the ultimate outcome once everything is straightened out (no pun intended). :)
