Im having trouble releasing the slide lock on reload, with one hand. I like the larger grip it fits my hand well,but my thumb seems a bit short. whould changing the release lever to an extende version be a good idea or should I just learn to use the other hand?
 
I have the same problem with most 1911 and I've found that using my other hand is the quickest and easiest way.
 
I would suggest that the proper way is to grab the slide with your support hand, pull it sharply to the rear and let your hand slip off of the slide as it reaches the rearmost position. This will insure that you have maximum slide speed to feed the round and you will not ever waste any time trying to find that little button with your thumb. It is not a 'slide release' anyway.
