Para Ordinance handguns

What do you guys think about Para Ordinance handguns? I heven't seen them mentioned since I've been around here, and I was wondering how you guys feel about them. I'm particularly interested in the P16-40, and the P14-45. Thanks for any info.

Para's are generally good pistols. I have never owned one, but I know many who have and they liked them.

I use a box-stock P14-45 for carry every day. I need to get an ambi safety on it and that is all I can think of.
Just the fact I carry it every day says I like it, it will feed any ammo I have tried to put through it, although I have not tried semi-wadcutters.

I have shot a double stack in .40 S&W and I thought it was great, although it was modified for IPSC. I am shooting a 9 MM now, but will be buying a PARA in the future when I decide to advance into the major power factor. I have heard no ill remarks about the PARA from anybody at the range where I shoot. All i hear is " Make sure yor next pistol is a PARA".

I have a SS P-16 Limited, A SS P-12 Limited and a two-tone P-13 that I am working on as a carry gun. None of the three have ever missed a beat right out of the box. I changed out the triggers because I like the long trigger and do away with the plastic mag release. The P-16 is great shooter plus 16+1 rounds of 40 S&W is great. The P-13 is right on out-of-the-box.... someone in Canada is doing something right.

I guess the stainless P14-45 I had was a lemon. It would'nt feed anything.Accuracy was lacking also. Positive note, sold it for the same money I gave for it.

I shoot a Para open race gun in 38 super and a P16-40 for limited. With Para mags and Dawson basepads you get 21 rounds of .40 in the mag with room for the reload so you can start with 22 in the gun. This is 1-2 more than the alphabet guns. My guns shoot great and always run. For competition you don't get the extra weight up front like with long dustcover guns but with tungsten bull barrels and tungsten guiderods you can put as much weight up front as you like. I have had 2 Para's in .45 with ramped barrels. The ramped barrels seem to only like certain bullet styles, 230 jacketed always work but smaller lead have had jamming problems. I have a alloy framed Para with a standard unramped barrel that will digest anything you put in it using the mags from the previous guns. Maybe its my guns or maybe the step from the frame to the barrel, but unramped works better for me in a Para frame. there's my .02.

All these positive reports!

When I saw the tiny "Super Compact Para Carry-C6.45 LDA" in the gun shop's case, I was just SURE that I had found "MY .45". Then guys started with the "horror stories". Scared me off. Right now, at this very second, I'm staring at the back cover of the Jan. 2002 issue of "Guns and Ammo". There is a big, full color picture of the Para Super Compact.
It looked great in the shop and the trigger felt sweet--you guy's think I made a mistake by not taking it home? When I look at this great picture, my stomach hurts.

I have a relatively early P14-45. I agree with 12-34 that the factory sites are junk. Also, it doesn't have a beavertail safety, so I get some hammer bite. The factory trigger sucked. And before too long, the hammer started following the slide. The gunsmith who repaired it said he had to replace the hammer and sear, that the ones from the factory were soft. I get some failures to feed. The safety is ok, but not on a par with a Kimber safety -- small and mushy feeling. The cutout notch on the slide for the slide stop is wearing significantly, and will have to be repaired. The frame itself doesn't fit my medium to large hands as well as a single stack 1911. I quite impressed with my Para. Quite POORLY impressed, that is. It's not even close to a Kimber. YMMV.

Rented a P-10/45 before I got the itch to buy one... DAMN GOOD IDEA. The P-10 is too small for my beefy hands and the ambi safety kept engaging from the recoil and shifting of hands.

Tried a P-12/45 and fell in love. All the pluses of an Officers Model, but with twice the ammo! Lved it so much I bought a pair and a dozen mags. That was over a year ago. They are my pride and joy.

Bought a Para two weeks ago (14 45) used. Just took it to the range today. Very Happy with it ! I may change the slide release lever used to my Glock and is some what differant . But felt good and peformed very well.

Will have to start to reload , 45's more $ than 9mm.
