Para Ord owners/shooters

I have saved up some extra money and have always liked the Para pistols so I have decided to look into getting one.

I am looking at an SA P-12 .45 in Stainless but have never shot one nor do i know anyone that owns one. I have read up on them but I would like some feedback from people who have fired this line of weapons.

I will be getting it in a couple of weeks. I want to know if this is a good investment or should I spend my money on something else.

As far as 1911 styles go, I am pretty set on this model unless I hear to many bad replies.

if you're buying a gun for an investment, you're certainly not making a good choice. Investments are meant to increase in value, not remain constant or depreciate, as a para p12 certianly will do. There is nothing wrong with the gun, but there are so many p12s, that you're never going to get a return on your investment.

However, if you're buying a gun to shoot, then you're doing well choosing the para. I feel you get far more for your money right out of the box than you do from any other manufacturer, especially more so than the over priced kimbers.

If you're looking for concealment, i guess go with the P12 if you're set on it, but if you're looking for more in the line of a shooter, get the full size P14. Bigger grip, longer sight radius. And get the "Limited" model if you're going to buy one. Then you won't want to do all that much to it, except maybe replace the plastic trigger, and maybe the plastic mag release, depending on how much you're going to shoot the gun.

And as always, don't pay retail!

I'm actually a fan of the P13.45. Mine is stainless. Great gun. 13+1 rounds of .45 in a Glock 19 sized gun ain't bad. Hi-caps can be had for around 60-70 bucks. The only problems I've had with mine are a slight rust looking stuff right on the top of the slide (don't think it's rust, just dirt, and it hasn't gotten worse), and the rear sight came loose (some threadlock fixed that). Other than that, it's accurate and reliable.

I didn't mean as a real investment just whether or not I was going to spend my money on it or something else.

Most guns nowadays do not maintian there value.

I am kinda set on the P-12 due to its size and the way if feels in my hand. (Gun shows and such) I will be carrying it and size matters to me. :) I looked at the P-10 a few years ago but opted for the G30 based on reviews I read and the fact that the P-10 was way to small for my hand. I looked at a P-13 today but couldn't compare since they didn't have the P-12 in stock.

I want a 1911 style pistol but dont really care for the Colt/kimber makes. I feel I would be paying for a name then the gun itself, but to each his own.

Thanks for the advice, info and tips. I think Ill go look at the P-12 and the P-13 next week and try to decide. :D

Safe shooting...
