Para Ord mag problem.

That P-13 I just bought is great for acccuracy, and its feeding everything I've put through it just fine until the last round. When I first got my hi-caps one of the springs on the mags was weak and it wouldn't push the follower up all the way up to lock the slide. Well I got replacement springs and put them in in all of my mags They're +10%. Now the last round in the mags isn't chambering, and it's locking the slide to the rear. When I looked at the position of the round it's pushed up forward about 1/4". I'm wondering if the replacement springs are toopowerful and are pushing that round up too quickly.

Any ideas? Is there a recommended length that the springs should be? ETC?

Thanks for your help.

I had the same problem on my P-14. [slide not locking back on last round] Follower was bad and replaced on mags. Fixed the problem. Are these factory mags?

12-34hom,

How did you fix the problem? The same thing is happening with my P14-45 as well.

12-34, Yes they are factory mags, BUT the slide is locking back on the last round. I don't think I made myself clear on my original post. The last round is getting pushed forward about 1/4" forward and the slide is locking back to the rear. When I sligshoot the slide or just hit the slide release, the round chambers just fine. That's why I think that the mag springs I just put in may be too powerfull/long.

When I first disassembled my mags one of the springs was noticeably shorter than the other two.

I just bought a Para, P14-45 and had a similar problem with the generic 10 round magazine I bought for practice. The High cap. mag that came with the pistol works flawlessly, but the 10 round (generic) doesn't lock the slide if I rack it by hand (empty mag) and when the last round is fired, it just barely locks the slide back. I took it back to the gun shop today and they're going to order me a 10 rnd mag made by Para-Ordnance. One of the guys there had a similar problem with his colt 1911 and a magazine. He said he fixed it but couldn't remember if it was the follower or the spring that he replaced. He was sure it was the follower. It's definitely a mag problem. Maybe you should get another follower and try various combinations. (new spring & old follower, old spring & new follower, new spring & new follower, etc..)

The first step is registration, the second step is confiscation, the final step is subjugation.

Ok, here's my 5c worth....
Where the mag spring clips under the follower, bend the spring so that it ISN'T pushing the front of the follower up so much.
What is happening is that the rear rim of the cartridge is being missed by the slide & not chambering.
By getting the nose of the cartridge lower, the rear will come up enough to be picked up. :) - Should fix it easily ! :D
The other 2 things to check for pre-mature slide lock back is NO detent notch in the slide stop (for the slide stop plunger to "pop" into)& for the projectile "nudging" the slide stop up inside the gun when firing.
