Para LDA - Range Report #4

Went to the Range on Saturday night.
Whacked another 200rnds through the D-16 & I hafta admit I'm getting better shooting the LDA!

Shot up some bowling pins then got bored & put shotgun hulls out at 10 yards on the pin table.
Had about a 95% success rate with the 1st shot per hull.

Me & a mate then put up IPSC targets @ 10-15yds & tried tricking each other by having them either going back or forwards & alternating which one did what.

Did El Presidente drills, holding a paper & then shooting drill, side on to target etc.
2 shots per target - No problem !

Once you get the LDA rockin' it's hard to remember that you're shooting DA & not SA.

All together a very SATISFYING night.

George, I use a Teflon coated 200gr conical point lead projectile on top of 4.5gr of Australian Defense Industries (ADI) AP 70.

Works rather nice too!

HS,
I shot my D-16 LDA in it's first IPSC match on Sunday. The gun ran like a champ. If not for operator error, I would have had a great day. The LDA hit everything I pointed it at. I would have done much better in the match if I had remembered to point it at all the targets

I'm currently making major loading 180gr TC lead bullets over 6.5gr of Hogdon HS-6. The LDA is eating it up. Will shoot it again this Sunday in my local club match. This time I'm looking forward to both the gun and the user running well.

That sounds like an interesting load.
What velocity range and pressure etc?
This is stuff you roll your self or is it commercialy available?
(I been testing all kinds of different loads and seem to be hooked on it now. Just shootign plain old Hydras has gotten boring.)

George,
Here's the details on my IPSC .40 Liberty loads.

Bullet: 180gr TC lead hardcast made by "The Bullet Works" in Breckenridge, TX.
Powder: 6.5gr of HS-6
Primer: CCI 500
Brass: Mixed headstamps
OAL: 1.130
Velocity: 958 fps with a spread of 16 fps.
Notes: This load makes 172 power factor for IPSC. No signs of exessive pressure from any of my .40 Liberty weapons. The LDA likes this load alot better than the BHP. The Hi-Power cycles it fine, but the muzzle flip is much more noticeable than in the LDA. A heavier spring in the BHP may solve this problem. I'll let yall know.

I load mine long, so that with the barrel out of the gun, I drop the cartridge into the chamber & a tiny "nudge" is required to get it in.
Not exactly rocket science but works very well for me.
