Paper Hulls

Death from Afar

Eley has started loading paper hulled shells again!!!!

I am the only one who loves the smell of paper hulled shotshells? NOthing compares to shooting a brace of birds, then breaking the gun open for their sweet smell.....

Maybe I should get out more.

I'm not sure about Winchester AA's, but I know Federal never quit making paper hulls. Can you get Federal Gold Medal Papers over there??

Whats an eley? Can you get that in the US? I've got 2 boxes of old remington paper shot shells but havent shot them. I was keeping them for collectable reasons but now that they are coming out with papers again so maby I will shoot them.

Besides the memory trigger of the smell, there's not that much to recommend paper cases.

Wet ones swell, not matter how much wax is applied.

Not as reloadable, even the Lyman book recommends reloading the fine Fed cases once and pitching them.

Lots of us older types remember cutting off the crimps of both a 12 gauge and a 16 gauge paper case, filling the 16 with strike anwhere matches, sticking it into the 12 gauge case and having a waterproof match safe for hunting.

The reason to shoot them? Obviulsy nostalgia is a big part, but if you are using paper hulls and felt wads, they are far more enviromentally friendly as you dont have to worry about the junk left lying around. Indeed, in the UK some game areas forbid plastic cases and wads, and I wouldnt be surprissed if that was the case in some parts of the US .

They are relaodable, but it is difficult to size. IN addition, after about 3-4 shots, you can snap each case at the end of the hull as the paper has been burnt through!

Paper Hulls.....

Really do shoot softer than plastic hulls. There is a noticable difference in felt recoil. Don't ask me why, but I've loaded both and paper are a pain but nice shooting.

Sorry, but I'll have to pass on those over priced "Eley" loads. I can't believe they sell very many.

:D

Paper hulls, oh yeah!

Chambers stayed cleaner and none of the "plasticizing" and "grittiness" as one gets with plastic hulls.

Low temp in the oven on a rack to dry them ...

Softer shooting as mentioned.

YES I remember , I reloaded, and still like 'em today as well!

i am guessing we won't hear from this guy after awhile if he keeps it up. I am sure we will read about him though in the next Darwin awards. Seriously this could be dangerous, especially if you have a gas oven which could make the whole kitchen/house go boom!!!! hopefully you live alone, otherwise you make take out innocent bystanders/family.
