I'm watching the noon news and there seems to be a bit of a bother taking place in front of the Palm Beach Co offices of the Board of Elections. It seems that some of the folks there (dems of course) want a countywide re-vote.
I'm sure most have you have heard that close to 19,000 ballots were "nullified" because of errors made by the people who filled them out. Now some people are complaining that they wanted to vote for Gore but they "were confused" by the form of the ballot and voted for Buchanan instead.
People punching two holes in the ballot where you marked your choice for pres however caused most of the cancelled ballots.
All political opinion aside and considering the following reasons....
Against a re-vote:
1) The county sent out sample ballots weeks ahead of time for people to study you should have been prepared.
2) If you look at the ballot itself it's not that confusing.
3) A little common sense would dictate that you don't put 2 choices down in the area on the form where you would find your choices for a single office.
4) If confused by the form, by all that is holy ASK FOR BLOODY HELP!!!
5) The ballot format was approved by both the dems and repubs ahead of time. No complaints were voiced at that time.
6) If you make a mistake you should have asked for a new ballot and then had the poll worker destroy the one you messed up in front of you.
For a revote:
1) Supposedly the sample ballot sent out and the one displayed at the polls was not the same as the ballot used on Election Day.
2) The ballot format is actually against the election law. It specifically states that the candidates’ names are to be on the left and the punch points on the right. This is not how the ballot is designed. You have names on both sides of the form and the punch points run down the middle but there are arrows clearly pointing to the particular point to be used for each choice and the names are clearly numbered( why would you go from choice 3 to choice 5 but use hole 4)
2) Supposedly the poll workers refused to provide new ballots when a voter admitted an error. (unconfirmed)
3) They're liberals and so how can we expect them to live with the consiquences of their mistakes. We have to be understanding and be flexable when dealing those of us who need "special help"
....What do all of you folks think??
(philosophical opinions aside, and strictly looking at only the facts)
