Painting your Polymer Semiauto?

I saw a picture of a Glock painted camouflage. It occured to me that many people like to paint their synthetic rifle stocks, or buy ones that come in colors other than black.

So, has/does anyone here do that with their pistols? Black can get so boring after awhile. How about a nice blue Glock? Or woodland camouflage? Or tan, if you live out in the desert?

Or something in a shade that matches my sneakers. I don't know if there would be much demand out there. Most colors I have seen for pistols were either trainers or commemorative pieces. Wouldn't it suck to see the pistol you have been lusting over in a local gun shop for just the right price but it is the wrong color?

CELIBRATE DIVERSITY!! Men, don your earrings and pink pistols!
We're off to save the Country!

Just kidding. Actually, Earth tones or camo may be OK, but when I start seeing red, blue, chartruce, or purple I'll figure the matching set of earrings wont be far behind!:barf:

Agreeded, Colour RED and BLUE are training guns, don't confuse the issue. There have been enough accidents already re training guns...........don't help the confusion!!!!

Firearms are a tool, to be used, if necessary, not a fashion accessory for the fools....  :barf:

Remember when EAA was offering the witness in different colors? They stopped because they got so much heat from the anti's an law enforcement because kids thought they looked so much like toys, or they were more likely to think that if they found one around the house.

I don't have a problem with brightly colored raceguns or other competition guns, but a defense gun should be blue (gun blue, not bright blue) or stainless (and I would prefer not to carry a shinny gun CCW).

I still think if I walked into the range with a bright blue gun, there'd be a lot of snickering going on in the background :p

 So I was thinking,if you paint your gun in pastels or warm earth tones would that make them less threating :barf: ?

And would painting your handgun make you more of a "gun nut" or less of a "gun nut"

I paint my guns all the time -- not just the polymer ones. I use spray paint, house paint -- whatever's in the garage. It looks great. Sometimes blue, sometimes red, etc. I'm waiting for the first coat of Dutch Boy "Ocean Pearl" to dry on my Holland and Holland. The barrels take longer to dry than the wood.

Sounds Like a Stunt, but, hey - - -

I am amused at the thought of doing a "camo" job on items which stay out of sight most of the time. Like, disposable lighters, and ball point pens. Most handguns carried "in the field" are protected by a jacket or a flap holster, so the whole idea sounds a little strange.

But this thread got me to thinking. I am conscious of a pistol carried inside a light-colored shirt perhaps showing through. I usually wear a t-shirt and perhaps my P9 Kahr would be less noticible if I painted the frame white. Might go well with the stainless slide. Hummmm . . .
I think I may try it out with white tape, first.

Or else I may forget the whole idea.

Seriously, handguns are highly personal items, and I guess personal taste rules. I agree, though: Leave the red and blue ones for training pieces, and avoid at least THAT much confusion.

Best,
Johnny

Ok, I've avoided reading this topic for days, got bored tonight & finally clicked on it.

Camo sounds kewl, and a thought came to mind. When I was a kid, they sold this stuff at the county fair in the exhibition booth area. It was a kit of some type of liquid ink/dye(?) material that you eye-droppered onto the surface of a bowl of water (it floated). Once you had a number of colors squeezed out, you could dip just about anything down through it & it would produce some wild psychodelic patterns on the surface of the item. They demo'd pens, pencils, lighters, even sneakers, and claimed the stuff to be very durable. Might just fill the camo bill ifya could resist using all of the wild colors in the kit. Or, you could just send the pistol out to one of these outfitters that does the camo finishes on shotguns & rifles.
