painting pistol sights, which color where?

I've read some threads about painting sights onto pistols, makarovs to be more exact...

I would like some input on the best color combinations and which color on which sight. Also, should the colors be applied in dots or other patterns?

oh, I almost forgot, would glow in the dark paint really work for night sights, or is that a joke.

thanks

My guns without night sights get a white dot on the front blade, nothing on the rear.
If you want something louder, I have seen several guns with the whole front blade painted international orange and a lime green border around the rear.
I haven't seen the luminous paint in use, but I expect it is like the various luminous plastic gadgets. They will glow for a while after exposure to bright light, but then fade away. The only use I can think of for it would be for a night match. You would be able to energize the paint with your flashlight before starting. Serious guns need tritium.

I recently painted bright orange nail polish over a coat of white polish on the front sight of one of my pistols. It grabs my eye, and my reaction time seems to have decreased some. Only in reasonably lit conditions, though. Eventually I'll set it up with a front tritium insert.
