Two days ago, I got my PACT chrono from Midway. I'm packing it up to be returned.
I've always loved my PACT scale, and the powder dispenser, and the second scale, and well....you get the picture. I expected the same quality in the chrono.
I have no problem with function. In fact, it seemed to be extremely accurate, and the ballistic computer was neat, if not up-to-date. No, no data in it for the Sierra 175gr Matchking. Not really much of a problem.
The problem came with fit and finish. First, the wire socket to the keypad wasn't plugged in properly. The case was poorly fitted (cutout for the LCD display was uneven, and the LCD wasn't evenly located). The circuit board was completely exposed in the rear of the unit (approximately 1.5"X4" cutout for the jacks). Not just dust, but small rocks and Hyundais could accidentally get into the delicate circuitry. The jacks felt like they were going to break off when I plugged in the sensor leads. The printer was slow and extremely noisy....I though the unit was about to die. The cutoff strip for the printer was simply a formed plastic lip that DID NOT allow for the paper to be torn off evenly. A 2-cent metal blade or teeth molded into the plastic would solve that.
All in all, The chrono is accurate, but the fit and finish are more reminicent of a $75.00 chrono, not a $279.00 unit. I've lost some respect for PACT.
