Just curious I live in Oregon and wonder what the Laws are about packing heat openly and concealed. I have gone to packing.org and understand some of the concealed weapons laws and it doesn't really give an answer as to whether or not you can openly carry a(n) sidearm(s). I am getting my CHL mid-Feburary but I was wondering what the deal is until then..can I carry my sidearm with me if it is visible?? just curious.

Why would you want to draw attention to yourself in that way???? Being on the "left" coast and everything, that attention would definitly be negetive. Concealed carry is the best choice. Just my my opinion.

Info.

Contact your local DA or Public Defender. Go down to the county courthouse and ask around. That would be the best way to find out and ensure that you are correct. Might not hurt to get it in writing and keep it with you or the firearm.
I do agree with the previous though, it will attract lots of attention, and likely not the good kind. Might be best to wait this one more month for the CHL.

You can carry concealed anywhere but...

...Federal buildings and the county courthouse. For a complete summary of gun laws, go to www.oregonfirearms.org there is a link that covers all of the gun laws on Oregon's books. Of course, now that Gimmy Burdick is the Head of the State Senate Judiciary Committee, you can expect: An "assault weapons" ban, ban on Concealed Carry in places that serve alcohol, a ban on .50BMG rifles, and a ban on firearms near schools. The Oregon Firearms Federation is a grass roots organization that has been even more effective than the NRA. Give them a look.

Open carry is legal everywhere but Portland and Beaverton have an illegal law that states that you can't open carry. You can be a test case for it if you wish :D .

Eugene and most other larger cities you just get  or "He's got a GUN!!!!", mainly just  through.

Just wait for your CHL. Before I knew better I waited 6 months (new resident) and applied. I only wore the gun open carry once, at Winco, and got the "He's got a GUN!!!!!" thing with alot of  's.

Thanks for all the responses, and I certainly appriciate the great story about the "he's got a gun" . Basically I was just wondering because I was going to wear it when I go shooting but if I did make a stop what the laws where about that.
