Pachmayr Decel pad removal

I have a Remmy 700 .30-06 with what looks like a D752 shotgun pad on it. I would like to pull it and trim about 1/2" from the butt. I cant find any screw holes and dont want to start digging around with an awl and mar it.
Are these pads soft enough to cover the screw holes or is it possible that it was glued on?

Any help you could give me would be very much appreciated.

You can glue them on, but you still need the screws to hold them in place. To find the existing holes, try spreading the rubber out by pulling with your thumbs on the sides of the pad, you will see the slits open up. Lube up your screwdriver and slip it into the holes.

Which stock is this?

The 700 wood or Remington synthetic stocks use screws, the Sendero models (with the H-S Precision stock) have a glued on pad.

It is an older wood stock. I am tired of streching my neck to get a good look through the scope. It is an older Redfield scope from the same vintage as the rifle so I dont really want to change the scope. I want to pull the pad if possible then put spacers on the butt untlil I figure out how much I need to trim off, or I may just get a thinner pad instead of cutting.

.

I got it off. I had to use a combination of pulling apart and squeezing to find the holes. Now I need to figure out which way to go, new pad or trimming the stock.
I like the looks of the pad so I will probably trim.

Thanks again for your help.
